Filed Under (Personal Growth, Self Confidence, success) by Kevin on 29-08-2008

Confidence is a very broad and general term. We would all enjoy being confident, and having more confidence throughout our lives in general, but when we make this choice in our lives, it is important to define the means of confidence that we want in life. Without implementing the use of a defined goal, it is very likely that our full potential when it comes to determining your level of confidence. We all have the dream of confidence, but the only way that it will become a reality is for us to make goals and do what it takes to achieve those goals. Here, we will evaluate how you can go about determining your level of confidence.

In order to go about the process of determining your level of confidence, it is first important to ask yourself a few questions. These questions will help you determine what “confidence” means to you. Does it mean holding a certain position at work? Does it mean accomplishing a certain financial goal? Does it mean remaining positive at all times? You really have to know what confidence means to you before you can determine your level of confidence and how to achieve confidence. Let’s move on to the questions:

1. Are you the type of person that requires a lot of direction when it comes to making important decisions in your life?
2. Is it important to you to have a “support system” in place that consists of several individuals in order to make you feel more secure?
3. Are you active in meetings, or do you simply sit and listen?
4. Do you have a fear of public speaking?
5. Do you get nervous and/or anxious when it comes to meeting new people?
6. Do you have a difficult time saying “no” to your superiors, or people in general?
7. Do you suffer from approval addiction?
8. Are risks just too “risky” to even consider?
9. Are you comfortable with your appearance?
10. Do you enjoy being in the midst of many different people?

Answering these questions will actually put in perspective what level of confidence that you have. It should assist you in determining your strengths, as well as your weaknesses. It is essential that you understand what points in your personality and thoughts that you must change in order to set the appropriate goals that will allow you to increase your confidence levels.

Confidence Essentials

When it comes to increasing confidence, there are a few things that I consider to be “essentials” when it comes to your overall success. Listed below are some of these essentials:

1. First, you must sway your thinking from a negative viewpoint to a positive viewpoint. One of the most effective strategies that I feel is productive in this area is to believe that you are on a mission. No one was placed here by accident. Each and every single individual on Earth has a purpose or a “mission in life. All those “negative” things that happen and frustrate us…those are lessons! That’s right! The mistakes, the failures, the “bad luck” all of these things are put in place to assist you in the way of learning to be your very best as you journey through life!
2. You must love people! This is a simple fact – if you love people, people will love you! Take an active interest in people, find out who they are, find out what excites them in life, take some of their passion and apply it to your life! If you are able to do this, you will have an extremely high level of confidence!
3. In order to be confident, you have to love yourself! This is not conceit; this is love in the way of value!

If you do the things listed here, you will be able to easily determine your level of confidence!

Setting Goals

Filed Under (Goals, Motivation, Personal Growth, success) by Kevin on 27-08-2008

Setting goals should be the start of any endeavor but how many people take the time and trouble to sit down and methodically write down the steps they are going to take to achieve their goals. Little wonder so many people fail to realize their dreams.

Goals should be set for even the small things. In fact start with small goals because success here will encourage you for the bigger endeavors to come. It is a fact that small and regular success stimulates progress in life and the game of life is the first place to set your goals. Here the plan is the big picture and starts from the point you are currently at in life.

Maybe you are in your fifties and thinking towards retirement. Perhaps you are early twenties and looking forward to marriage, family and the first home. Whatever your situation put the steps to your goal down on paper. In effect these are your life goals. Then within this bigger picture each step may require its own set of goals.

Setting goals can be stimulating and hugely rewarding when they are achieved. As in everything in life there are things that seem utterly impossible. However, if you break them down into smaller steps it is amazing how easily you progress to your ultimate goal. Like the old joke that asks, how do you eat an elephant? The answer is, eat one mouthful at a time.

Some of the more important goals you will set can be summarized as achieving a healthy, happy lifestyle and this can include building wealth, having happy personal relationships and planning towards retirement.

The two main areas for many people are financial goals and personal happiness goals and in many ways these interlink. Although having money will not necessarily make you happy and being happy and content may not lead to having enough money to live on when you retire.

Goals make it clear to you what it is that you desire long term. Ideas change over time and goals can be upgraded and extended but generally the original themes remain constant. We all want enough money and we all want to be happy.

Without goals we can drift and allow ourselves to be led down life’s blind alleys where it can be difficult to regain your original momentum. You can vegetate in a low grade job only to wake up and find you are sixty years of age and stuck in that job until you retire, while younger colleagues are progressing to better positions.

Drifting in life is being unjustifiably content with second best and having no drive and desire to improve. It is a form of paralysis that drains life ambition from you. Goals are the footholds that allow you to rise from this apathetic state and attain the lofty heights of your earlier ambition. Setting goals are imperative to success in life and in business. Dream your dreams and set your goals. Now is a good time to start.

The Stress Of Driving: Learning To Relax Behind The Wheel

Filed Under (Relaxation, Stress Management, Wellness) by Kevin on 25-08-2008

We all know that driving can be very stressful especially when we live in larger cities or have other circumstances that make commuting from one place to another nothing more than a hassle. For many people it’s getting stuck in traffic jams and having very little time left before they have to be to work that really have their blood boiling. Morning rush hour can really be a tough thing to deal with. Another thing that can really get to some people is road construction when they have to be somewhere. Making detours and stopping for other traffic can get really tiring.

Road conditions like construction and rush hour are not the only things that can overwhelm a person with stress while driving. We all have notice that there are a lot of people on the roads that probably, in our opinions, that should not be driving at all. Not to mention those who have kids that seem to get bored in the car. Between trying to keep the kids entertained and keeping them from killing each other in the back seat it can be hard to keep ones mind on driving, this can be a big safety issue.

Then you have to worry about paying insurance and keeping the car running good. I do not think I even have to mention the rising gas prices all over the US, which seem to be putting everyone under a little stress. Repairs cost are not cheap either, so just trying to keep a vehicle running good and on the road for your needs can really put a person over the edge. Many people cannot even afford to have their car fixed and have to deal with worrying when and where their car will break down next and what you will do if the car gives out permanently.

Well through all of the problems and huge causes of stress there is a little hope. There are several things you can do to try and reduce the stress that we know as driving. Unfortunately, we need to go anywhere these days we most often will have to drive there or at least take public transportation. However, most of us have vehicles and seem to drive more than anything else and unfortunately there will always be some type of stress on the roads. So instead of letting the stress build and build until you cannot take it anymore try these tips to reduce whatever stress you can.

While driving, instead of listening to your favorite radio station or CDs, try listening to music that will relax you. Classical and mediation music is perfect for reducing stress, even in some of the most frustrating situations. Nature sounds like sounds of the forest or a beach are also very good at relieving stress. However, a lot of people do not have CD players in their vehicles, if you do not have a CD player you should consider tapes or a portable CD player with a tape adapter.

Consider taking a different route to school or work. If you normally would take a highway or freeway you should consider taking city streets instead or vice versa. This can help reduce the stress of traffic and the normal routine. However, you may find that taking a different route will take longer to get where you need to be, therefore you should leave the house early enough so there is no stress about being late to work or school. Even if you do not take the different route you should still consider leaving earlier from your house to avoid being late in the case of traffic jams and accidents.

If you have kids, you should have things in the car to entertain them during long rides. However, if you do not have anything in the car to entertain the kids you can always play games with them like I Spy or try to find license plates that are from out of state. By keep the kids occupied and not killing each other in the back seat you can greatly reduce your stress and the likelihood of having an accident, which can cause even more stress.

What Is Tai Chi?

Filed Under (Fitness, Inner Peace, Meditation, Relaxation, Spiritual Growth, Wellness) by Kevin on 22-08-2008

If you were to translate Tai Chi into English you would get something that you may not have expected as it translates into “Supreme Ultimate Force”. This means that it is a state of unlimited and complete capability. This type of practice confronts the concepts between Yin and Yang, which rule over the four realms and five elements. Without these two very important aspects there would be no world, as they are what created it and control everything about it. Without Yin there can be no Yang and vice versa. Tai Chi can also be translates as meaning Unity, Oneness, or being one with.

Tai Chi uses the concept of negative and positive energy to draw ones force from the body itself. To be good at Tai Chi one must be at one with himself and have the ultimate discipline of their body. Tai Chi has been practiced since ancient times and is still practiced today even in the western society. It is a series of slow movements that resemble Yoga or moving mediation, in fact you can even say that it is a mix of the two. The different movements end up making forms of the various poses of several animals and birds. Tai Chi is not considered a martial art because of its slow movements.

Tai Chi is considered by practitioners as a relaxing exercise that calls upon the body, mind, soul and environment to work together. However, there are some who look at Tai Chi as a type of combat due to its considerable force behind the movements. If you know anything about Chinese medicine you know that it is all about the energy force that flows through the body that is known as Chi. If for some reason the flow of good Chi is disrupted, the person can fall ill. Tai Chi is a way of keeping the good chi circulating throughout the body as it should.

It is believed that Chi circulates through the body just as you blood would, reaching all organs. Therefore, because Tai Chi helps circulate Chi energy it is directly connected to other types of Chinese medicine such as acupuncture and other oriental healing. Common knowledge is that Tai Chi is practiced to promote tranquility and calmness in ones mind. The mind has to be focused in order to do the complicated movements of Tai Chi. By doing Tai Chi the person will learn many new skills that include motor control, balance, rhythm of movement and alignment of the limbs and body.

By practicing Tai Chi often enough the person will learn how to have better posture when sitting, standing, walking and even running. There are so many different benefits to practicing Tai Chi that they can not all be discussed. However, I can tell you that Tai Chi is a great way to have a healthier body and be more in control of it. By doing Tai Chi you can use a type of “combat” in a slow way without hurting the opponent. However, if you are looking for a self defense martial arts you are looking in the wrong place.

Is It Possible To Maintain A Nutritious Diet While On Vacation?

Filed Under (Good Health, Motivation, Personal Growth, Self Confidence, Wellness) by Kevin on 20-08-2008

Sticking to a nutritious diet while vacationing can be one of the most difficult things to do. After all, a vacation is for having fun and that includes eating good food! However, if you learn how to make smart choices, a nourishing diet is really not that difficult when you’re away from home. This is probably not the best time in which to start a healthy diet, but if you are currently making healthy choices in your foods already, modifying your diet slightly to accommodate traveling is not as hard as it may seem.

If you are vacationing on an airplane, a wholesome diet may have to include airplane food, which may be a challenge, depending on the selection. When you book your flight, ask about your food options and ask if a vegetarian dish is available. Vegetarian dishes are sometimes more nutritional in this case, but it really depends on what they will be serving. If you can, eat a larger meal before your flight so that you don’t have to eat the entire meal that is served to feel full.

When driving or taking a bus or metro, you may be tempted to stop at fast food restaurants and eat the foods found there. Avoid this whenever possible. If you’re on vacation, you may want to splurge a little bit, but having fast food more than once during a week can really be bad for your health. If you must, choose the healthiest options available, like chicken breasts and herbal tea.

Also remember that you can take your own meals when vacationing. Carrying a loaf of whole wheat bread or pita wraps, some lean turkey, and low fat cheese in a cooler is a great way to avoid high fat and high cholesterol junk food meals. These are much better choices and you’ll save a lot of money as well. Call ahead to be sure there will be a refrigerator in your hotel room.

Lastly, make smart choices when you eat out. If you choose salads or pasta, get the dressing on the side and ask about low-carb options. In fact, many places print these dieting options directly in the menu for the health conscious people. To control your portions order lunch menu sizes or split the meal in half and get a take-out bag, and you’ll be well on your way to nutritious eating, even away from home.

Yes, eating healthy foods when on vacation can be a challenge. However, your health is worth it. When you eat wholesome foods, you will also fight illnesses that you are likely to encounter when vacationing and be more attentive so that you can enjoy your trip. So eat well, relax and have a great time!
