It’s a great saying that more fit you stay, more productive you will be. It is a matter of fact that healthy people will stay les absent, whether it is at school, college or at work. Importantly you can be able to handle stress also. Along with it you will possibly develop a positive attitude towards living your life. It is a great source of self-esteem and self-confidence. A man with good health will stay longer life happily and also enjoy his life with healthy mind and body. Even you can get this healthiness if you go through a constant physical exercise. If you want to achieve a secure and healthy life then you will have to commit to fitness for the rest of your life.

If you make a commitment for life time then you will stay safe from poor feeling of obesity. A former general surgeon Dr. David Satcher found that excess body fat and body weight is epidemic. He said that this epidemic causes death to approximately 300,000 people each year. As a matter of fact excess body fat is now becoming the secondary reason of death in the US. Many physicians always remind their patients to focus in their physical fitness to avoid this type of frightening epidemic. They even try to declare this fact publicly. So what is the reason that many people are growing unhealthy?

The reality that more body mass can influence and harm an individual’s health is no more a breaking news because this is a fact that has existed for ages. This fact is in the history and has yet not been resolved. Neglecting obesity raises health problems drastically and dramatically. Physical fitness is one of its major reasons. Rush paces, fast moves. You can find almost any adult running in a hurry. I wonder how not they get time for themselves and their health.

Most people have a tendency to neglect the most critical element of everyday program, i.e. workout. This problem has become much worse with the advent of technology. Climbing staircase is out of fashion and they have been replaced by elevators and escalators. These days you do not have to stand up and move towards the table to fetch a file because you have a swivel chair. So this way the physical fitness has been kept on stake.

Physical Fitness is something that requires not to be assumed. Everything has now become instantaneous, especially food. In case you want a healthy life and not an instant life then you will have to commit yourself on fitness because this will prove to increase the length of your life. Keep in mind that workout is an important meal of the day that should not be neglected.

In case you are a very busy man then you can choose a twenty four hour gym or fitness center. This way you can attend the gym at any time and the service will be as according to your working schedule.

Many people have been discovering the benefits of doing Pilates and Yoga. This is because the stereotypes about these exercises have been thrown out. People have been able to take a realistic look at what these exercises provide. This has allowed more people from a wider range of backgrounds to start exercising with these methods. More classes have been showing up in gyms and other organizations. As more classes show up, the rosters for the classes are quickly filled up. For those who are new to these exercise methods, it is a good idea to take a look at each exercise individually. You can then see how they benefit you in their own way. You can then take a look at how they are different and how combining the two is beneficial as well.

The Benefits of Yoga

When looking at the benefits of doing Pilates and Yoga, it is a good idea to take a look at each one individually. Yoga is an exercise which has been practiced for many centuries. It has many different benefits depending on which kind of Yoga class you take. You can take a class which will help you to stretch and meditate by concentrating on your breathing. You can also take a Yoga class which is more athletic in nature. There are even classes which will use intense heat as part of the exercise. The overall value of the exercise is to lengthen muscles and improve your ability to center your thoughts.

The Benefits of Pilates

Next in looking at the benefits of doing Pilates and Yoga is to look at Pilates. This is an exercise which was borne from Yoga about 80 years ago. It was developed to increase the core strength of those who use it. While the history of the exercise was used for those who dance, it has been used by those simply looking to have a more athletic body. Pilates tends to use different elements which will help you to do exercises.

The Difference Between Pilates and Yoga

While there are many benefits of doing Pilates and Yoga, the two do have differences between them. Whereas Yoga will concentrate more on the poses which are used to perform the exercises, Pilates concentrates more on the fluid motion in the exercises. Yoga is a method to lengthen muscles and make them limber. Pilates also lengthens muscles, but attempts to make them stronger in the process.

Reasons to Combine Exercises

Many gyms have started to combine Yoga and Pilates exercises. This is because there are benefits of doing Pilates and Yoga together. There is no they should be separated. Even teachers of one class or the other would tell you how one complements the other. By committing yourself to doing both exercises, you can improve your strength while making sure that you are still limber and agile. This can help you whether you are looking to dance, or you are just looking to keep up with your kids.

Taking care of our body is important because we want to have a long and happy life. Taking care of the mind is equally important and that is why you will find so many messages out there about brain exercises and finding new ways to think. To gain the most from these forms of activities though you need to take a close look at your lifestyle habits. If you take part in those that are preventing your brain from being as healthy as possible then now is the time to stop.

Too much stress is damaging to the brain as a whole. When you are under too much stress you are not going to be able to focus you attention where it needs to be. You will also not be in the best of moods to encourage your mind to develop positive memories from various situations. When you have too much stress your brain produces large amounts of cortisol as well. This can make you feel sluggish and it can cloud your judgment.

Getting enough rest is another area where may people don’t make the grade. It can be hard to get everything done in a single day that we need to. People tend to take on more and more these days. Yet you do have to take care of your basic needs properly if you want to accomplish anything the next day. A healthy mind starts with getting enough sleep each night. Try to get into a routine of going to sleep at the same time and waking up at the same time each day. This will help your mind to be well rested for what it needs to process when you are awake.

Making a commitment to exercise at least 30 minutes each day is also important. You want to do this for your physical health. However, it is also going to impact your brain and your mental well-being. Don’t make excuses that you can’t find the time to do it. Make sure you know your own fitness level and that you don’t go beyond that.

When you take part in physical exercise more oxygen gets to the brain. This will create chemicals that protect the brain cells. As a result you will be less likely to suffer from mental health problems and memory loss. You will also have a better attitude and more energy.

Avoid common harmful activities such as consuming alcohol and smoking cigarettes. Both of them will reduce the oxygen that gets to the brain. As you make a commitment to remove such lifestyle choices from your daily routine you will find that your efforts to preserve a healthy mind are going in the right direction.

Take a close and personal assessment of your own habits and lifestyle. Make those changes that need to be in place so you are going to live a long and healthy life. Too many people don’t think these aspects of their live matter but they definitely do. There is plenty of scientific evidence to show that when these elements are not in place it is harder to maintain a healthy mind. You may be trying your best in some areas but without all of them there will be key pieces of the puzzle missing.

Our memories are a precious part of us because they remind us of the good times and the bad times that we have experienced. Not everyone has a memory that is as good as they would like. Sure, we laugh when we forget what we were going to say or we walk into a room to do something and then have no idea what it is when we get in there. Your memory isn’t something that you want to see weaken so it is important for you to engage in various brain exercises. They will help you to improve your ability in this department.

There are basic memory games where you have to match two like things. You can do this with a deck of cards or you can buy a memory game. Turning over two of them, if they are a match you get to remove them from the pile. If they don’t match you turn them face down again. Then you turn over one more card. The objective is to remember what you see where so you can match up pairs with those cards that have been exposed so far. You can even play such games on-line by clicking your mouse to show what you want to turn over.

Association is a great way to improve your memory. This scenario allows you to connect something new with something that is familiar. For example you can associate a person’s name when you are introduced with something that is familiar to you. Then when you see them again that familiar thing will be triggered by your brain and you will remember their name as well as were you met them. This is a handy tool when you are continually meeting new individuals for business or socially.

Most of us like some form of music, and so you can use what you are interested in to improve your memory. As you sing along to the songs at home or in the car you would know all the lyrics right? Now try to write them down on a piece of paper without hearing the song. Changes are that key parts of it such as the chorus will be the most to stand out in your mind. Try to play the song in your mind from start to finish and to write down as may of the lyrics as you can. This is a fun way to improve your memory as well as to discover how much you do know about the music you listen to.

The key to being successful is to find those types of brain exercises that you find to be challenging and fun at the same time. This way you will be looking forward to doing them each day instead of avoiding them. The more you work at it the more you will see that brain exercises do improve your memory.

This of these strategies as a workout for your mind. There is always room for improvement no matter how old you are or what your recalling level is right now. It is important to remember that after about the age of 30 the mind can start slowing down on a cognitive level. Don’t wait until then to start exercising your brain. Do it at an early age so you are on top of things as you do get older.

It can be a challenge to improve our memory with brain exercises. At the same time though it can really be much fun. Try to fit such activities into your daily schedule for at least 15 minutes. You will be surprised at how much more you remember. That will be a good feeling for you at any age. The loss of memory can be short-term in nature but it can still be frustrating. Give yourself every opportunity to have an exceptional memory that doesn’t forget those things that are important.

There are several reasons one should exercise. The most popular perhaps is weight loss. But exercise is also closely linked to stress management. Here are the reasons exercise is a great stress reliever:

Exercise is a good diversion from life’s stress. Work, school, relationships and career can be stressful. Physical activity helps take your mind off your problems and stressful situations, refreshes your thoughts, gathers your senses, and gives you a change of scenery.

It is a good outlet for frustration. Annoyed? Angry? Frustrated? Forms of exercise such as martial arts, boxing, wrestling, and other sports like mountain biking, basketball, baseball and soccer, provide a place to release your negative emotions, turning these unhealthy emotions into motivation to improve health, strength and well-being.

It reduces stress hormones. A stressed person has high levels of stress hormones. With regular exercise, the stress hormones like cortisol decreases and “happy chemicals”, endorphins, increase giving the body its natural positive boost.

It improves health. You probably know this already but the point has to be clear. When you are stressed, you feel weak, you experience physical pain, you isolate yourself from friends and family, you feel hopeless and irritated, you start to miss activities and you be anxious or even depressed. As a result, your overall well-being suffers as your health declines. Through exercise, you can improve your health and improve your immune system, and become more resistant to long-term effects of stress.

It provides a setting for social support. Whether you are hiking with a friend, working out in the gym with a buddy, in a yoga class with others, or playing basketball with a team, having others work out with you is enough to make you feel good, plus you still get the same amount of benefits of exercising. As you work out with others, you are more motivated to push harder without feeling that it is work or an obligation.

It makes you feel good. An improved physical appearance makes you feel good about yourself. It also boosts your confidence and strength. This reason may be superficial, but it is clear; when you exercise, you start to think positively about yourself and begin to change your outlook on life.

If the given reasons are not enough to get you moving and start exercising, I don’t know what is!

Kneel on a thick carpet or blanket with your knees close together. Sit back on your heels and stretch up from your hips, balancing your head well so a line drawn through ear, shoulder, elbow and hip would be straight. You should sit up in this posture for greatest benefits.

The Locust (Salabhasana)

Most yoga students are familiar with this posture. Lie flat, face down, chin on floor. Make your hands into fists and push them either under your thighs to help the lift, or place them alongside your body. Breathe out and lift legs from your hips, tightening your buttocks and stretching your legs up and back. Hold position for as long as possible, breathe out, return to starting posture and repeat.

The Dog Stretch (Adho mukha svanasana)

Lie face down, legs stretched back, buttocks tightened and knees pulled back. Place hands just below shoulders, breathe out and lift head, then chest, shoulders and torso, pushing down from your pelvis and straightening your arms. From the back of your head to your tailbone, your body should be curved back. Push shoulders back and down. Push head back more. Stay like this as long as possible with normal breathing. Come down very slowly, and relax.

The Twist (Bhardwajasana)

Kneel on the floor and sit back, bringing both feet to the right of your hips. Straighten your right arm, bring it across your body and turn to the left. Place your hand, palm down under your left knee. Breathe out, turn your body more to the left and clasp your right elbow with your left-hand, from the back. Turn your head and gaze over your right shoulder. Fold position for a few breaths and then twist and look back over your left shoulder. Shoulders should be at right angles to the body. Come back to starting position and repeat on other side. You should do this posture once every hour if you have lower back pain.

Walking is a way to get the daily exercise you need and it is also great for your brain. Research shows that people who walk are doing a huge service for their brains. As a person walks the blood circulates faster. At the same time more glucose and oxygen are sent to the brain. This is possible because walking is a low impact exercise. When you exercise with fast paced movements your body is going to absorb that extra glucose and oxygen so it isn’t available for the brain to receive.

The extra oxygen that goes to your brain is a great way to help you reduce levels of stress. This is why a brisk walk a couple of times each day can help a person to see pressing situations in new ways. Individuals that walk regularly have better concentration and they are more receptive to learning new things. It is estimated that they risk of a stroke is reduced by more than 50% when you walk each day. Since a stroke can have severe consequences for the brain this is good news.

There have been many studies with women and their walking habits. Those that walk at least 20 minutes each day seem to be able to remember things that have occurred more than others. The fact that they are not suffering from memory loss as they get older could be because of the walking they have done in the past.

Start out by walking at least 20 minutes a day. Try to work up to at least 30 minutes. As you are able to get this time frame in without any problem offer yourself a new challenge. Try to walk further in those 30 minutes than you did before. This can be accomplished by picking up the pace and by focusing your attention on the size of your stride. Try to make them longer and with a purpose rather than just going for a leisurely stroll.

Don’t use the excuse that you don’t have enough energy to walk. If you have aches and pains you may be afraid to engage in such activities. However, walking releases more endorphins that are produced by the body naturally. This means you will have more energy than before when you walk. You will also have a sense of happiness that you didn’t before thanks to those endorphins being released in the brain. Those endorphins can also help to relieve various types of pain your body may have.

It is understandable that people are different when it comes to their fitness levels. Walking is low impact so just about anyone can take part in it. This is the perfect activity to engage in so your body gets the physical exercise it needs. At the same time our brain gets a workout that keeps it youthful and vital as well. You can walk alone or with a friend to keep yourself motivated. If you are alone the use of an MP3 player can help make it more interesting.

If you have children, take them along for the walk as well. Children are never too young to work on their physical and mental well-being. In fact, children that have been doing so from a young age will accept it as a part of what they need to do. They will be more likely to continue such efforts as they become adults themselves. This means that their brain will be strong and healthy. They will stay that way too instead of slipping as they get older.

You can get them a stroller or a wagon to help keep the pace rapid until they are old enough to keep up with you. Many parents walk at tracks around playgrounds too. This is perfect because the children get to play while you walk. Yet you can still keep a close eye on them while you do so.

The Pantajali’s Yoga Sutras is the most authoritative text on yoga. It defines yoga as a focusing of the attention to whatever object is being studied to exclude all others. Yoga isn’t only about postures, or meditation, it is a way of life, or religion. In this influencing scripture there are eight steps to awakening or enlightenment through yoga. These eight astanga or limbs of yoga are: yamas, niyamas, asanas, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, and samadhi.

The yamas consist of lessons in moral and social conduct in our environment. It teaches us to restrain from lying, stealing, and greed. Non-violence and consideration toward all living things is the key. Communication with sensitivity towards others and moderation in all things we do is revered.

The niyama focuses on attitudes towards ourselves: compromising, cleanliness, serenity, devotion, and asceticism. One should study and reverence to a higher intelligence. There is an acceptance of our limits towards God. It is key to have removed the impurities from the mind and body.

In the asanas, one focuses on posture practice, positioning the body while incorporating the breath to achieve a greater awareness in the mind. One is alert and relaxed without tension, while noting the reactions of the body and breath to various postures. This lessens the effect of the external influences on the body, such as diet and climate.

Pranayama, or the restraint and control of the breath, helps with concentration, energizing and balancing of the mind and body.

Pratyahara is the relaxation of the senses, where no distractions actually activate the mind.

Dharana, or concentration, is the ability to direct the mind toward a chosen object and focus in on it alone.

Dhyana, or meditation, is the ability to develop focused interactions with what we seek to understand.

Lastly, but most importantly, Samadhi is the ultimate state of Self-realization, or union with the Source.

When is the last time you took some time for yourself and spent it reading? If it has been too long then you need to treat yourself to some quality time with the reading materials of your choice. When you read you are going to give your mind plenty of exercise. This is a great way to keep it sharp and to reduce the risk of various mental health concerns. Even spending 15 minutes a day reading materials can help you.

It is important for parents to realize that reading is great exercise for the minds of young children as well. Even though they may not be able to read yet, when you read to them they are going to grow mentally. As they learn to read, make sure you share with them the joys of different types of books. You want them to become passionate about reading from a very early age.

Try to select various great reading materials as well. This way you can challenge your mind as you go along. Read books that you find to be of interest so you will stay with it. When you have a passion about a subject you will find it is hard to put that reading material aside for a while. You may be interested in magazines, books about history, romance novels, mysteries, or one of many other categories.

You can join a local book club as well to socialize and to exercise your mind. This involves the entire book club reading the same book. Then you will gather to talk about it and to get an understanding of how other people see the same materials. This is the fun part of any reading group. It exposes your mind to the idea there could be a whole other meaning to something you just read. It is important to realize that each of us process information differently. Therefore it is only reasonable to expect that to lead to different conclusions.

As you are reading materials, try to exposure yourself to new writing styles. If you come across words that you don’t know how to say or understand the meaning, take the time to find out. This way your vocabulary and your knowledge can continue to grow. Sometimes you can figure all of that through the context in which is used but if not that is fine too.

When you are reading, your mind is creating wonderful images in your mind. A well written story can place you at the scene. You can see the characters based on the details that were given about them. The entire book comes to life as the scenes are played out in your mind. What is fascinating is to read a book and then to watch the movie of it if one exists. Did you come close in your mental description of the characters compared with those used in the movie? If your mind is well developed then you will likely be very close!

Keep yourself informed of current events too when you read. This way you can exercise your mind by evaluating what your own opinion is on a given topic. Make sure you do your research to get both sides of the story though. You want your opinions to be based on all the factual information out there. Great resources including newspapers and an on-line news site.

Being able to discuss these current issues with other people is also going to help your mind get some exercise. When you bring up such topics there is sure to be plenty of debate about them as well. Don’t get into an argument with people over them but instead listen carefully to their decisions. As you open your ears to their view, you will also be opening your mind to other aspects that you didn’t consider before. This type of personal growth is hard to describe but it will take your breath away.

Yoga exercises strengthen your body and make it more flexible. Yoga also calms your mind and gives you energy. In active sports or strenuous exercises, you use up energy. In yoga classes, students report that they feel tranquil after a class, yet have more energy. Slow and steady motion is the key to going into or coming out of the postures. You hold a yoga pose for several seconds or even minutes and give attention to full, quiet breath. Your yoga instructor will always encourage you to relax as the exercises are being done.

You gently place your body into yoga postures. Done correctly, there’s very little chance of injury or muscle stress. A particular asana is not repeated dozens of times, nor are you ever encouraged to push yourself too much.

A yoga session is designed for balance. You stretch to the right and then to the left. You bend back and then forward. You learn to recognize when one side is stronger or more flexible than the other. Thus harmony and balance are achieved with yoga practice.

People of all ages can practice yoga exercises. They are easily modified to meet your needs and physical condition. Don’t be put off by the difficult looking postures you may see in a yoga book. A skilled teacher can adapt most asanas by using chairs, cushions, even a wall or other props. A yoga practice can be tailor-made just for you. If something is really impossible for you to do, just forget it. Never compete with yourself or others. Yoga is a stress-free but powerful way to exercise.

Yoga is good for increasing your flexibility and relieving stress, but it doesn’t take the place of aerobic exercise. You should still do regular, aerobic exercise, which increases your cardiovascular fitness, helps you lose weight, and, for people with non-insulin-dependent (type II) diabetes at least, improves blood glucose control.
