Quiet Reflection: A B12 Shot for the Spirit?

Filed Under (Inner Peace, Meditation, Personal Growth, Relaxation, Spiritual Growth) by Kevin on 08-09-2008

Modern alternative medicine and holistic healers believe in the power of the energy that flows through our bodies; this energy radiates from our mind as well. It is believed to be the chief from of transportation for our body’s nervous system to carry out communication. Breathing techniques, music, aromas, and candle therapy are all ways we utilize the opportunities to reflect on our day, allow our mind to rest and replenish itself for further use. The great benefit in meditation, however, is the mind’s ability to transform itself into a vehicle for higher awareness. Meditation is a way for us to become aware of the fact that there is more to our being than just our physical activity. We have so much more potential locked away in our mind, resources that we never tap into until we have the chance to quiet the mind, quiet our surroundings and open the door to the possibilities we don’t examine on a day to day basis.

Our spirit is the real benefactor in these moments of quiet reflection and meditation. Everyday, time after time, our spirit would soar if given the opportunity. But quite often, the opportunity is stolen thanks to the ever pressing issues of job responsibilities, children, and household responsibilities. Our spirit is generally all used up by the end of the day.

In our meditative state, thoughts that never have the opportunity to be heard during the bustle of the day are afforded the opportunity to come forward and be heard. Every step that we take is a step in some direction for our life. The opportunity to set our own destiny, develop our manifestation of what we believe our life should be, is the opportunity meditation provides. Every action we’ve ever taken started as a thought. The thought was then brought into reality by our action on that thought. So are we able to produce new thoughts and new possibilities, in this time of quiet reflection.

It is in these small moments of creativity and higher conscious operation that our mind heals itself from the stresses of the everyday activities, and maintains a real level of healthy operation. Our spirit has the opportunity to renew. Revive. Like the dying patient that receives the administration of CPR in the final hour, our spirit receives the moments of solitude that allow it to regroup, regain that wonderful faith in ourselves and mankind. Our mind is like our body, we don’t have to look unhealthy to be unhealthy, and sooner or later, the illnesses show, unless we’re given the opportunity for rebirth of our basic beliefs. This is how we provide the nourishment needed for our spirit to remain healthy.

Some people choose to accommodate this through community worship, some people through moments of quiet solitude in nature. Still others choose renewal through silent meditation and prayer. No matter our choice of activity the important accomplishment lays in the renewal of our spirituality and our belief in mankind.

Hypnosis Induction Techniques

Filed Under (Change, Hypnosis, Meditation, Personal Growth, Relaxation) by Kevin on 03-09-2008

The power of hypnosis is very real and very beneficial. If you find yourself faced with something that needs to be changed, hypnosis could help. The way hypnosis works is that a hypnotist or hypnotherapist would offer suggestions that your mind would accept to help resolve the issue. For example, if you are trying to stop smoking and nothing else has worked, hypnosis could be the breaking point. The professional would work with you so your mind begins to accept suggestions that smoking is unhealthy, dangerous, and unattractive.

Keep in mind that while hypnosis can be helpful for most people, it is not a magic bullet. In fact, people who use hypnosis will often couple it with other forms of treatment or therapy. Regardless, for hypnosis to work best, you need to be highly motivated and work with a highly trained professional. To be hypnotized, several induction techniques are used. Depending on the hypnotist or hypnotherapist you choose, the technique will likely vary. Hypnosis induction can be broken down into six primary categories but in most cases, the professional would use these induction techniques as building blocks for creating many other techniques.

First, you have eye fixation or fixed glaze, which was most popular in the 19th century. Unfortunately, many people do not respond to this type of induction, which sadly, if this is the only technique used by your professional and you do not respond, then you could be labeled as not being a good candidate for hypnosis when in fact, another form of induction might work very well. Therefore, when choosing a hypnotist or hypnotherapist, make sure they offer several induction techniques.

Next is the progressive relaxation type of induction, which is often called imagery. In most cases, progressive relaxation is used in self-hypnosis although it can be performed by a professional. For this to work, you would be asked to imagine yourself in a safe, comfortable place. With this, you would have a sense of well-being and peace. Once you reach that “place”, you would be awakened to full consciousness.

The third form of hypnosis induction is mental confusion. The goal with this technique is to confuse the conscious mind, which most experts believe helps it to relax so the suggestions can be received much better. The key with mental confusion is that it should only be performed by a skilled and trained hypnotist or hypnotherapist. This induction type should not be taken lightly. Sometimes, people are already confused so the last thing you want is further confusion that only compounds the problem rather than help.

The next hypnosis induction technique is mental misdirection. This particular technique uses the mind’s imagination that when balanced with response, you would respond to suggestions more effectively. Then, you have loss of equilibrium. Think about the mother that gently rocks her baby to sleep, or the parent that holds an injured child, rocking him or her slowly and soothingly. This same concept is incorporated into hypnosis, which for some, works exceedingly well.

The final hypnosis induction is a shock to the nervous system. In this case, the hypnotist or hypnotherapist would provide rapid inductions that employ sudden emphatic command. Typically, what you see happen in the person being hypnotized is they put up resistance to being hypnotized or completely, let go. While this technique is also beneficial, few professionals use it, as the technique is somewhat archaic.

Remember, a qualified hypnosis professional will be able to use one or many of these induction techniques to devise something specific to you. The possibilities are limitless and exciting. As you look around for a hypnotist or hypnotherapist, ask questions about the techniques used, the professional’s philosophy of induction techniques used, and the success rate.

The Basics Of Aromatherapy

Filed Under (Aromatherapy, Meditation, Relaxation, Stress Management) by Kevin on 01-09-2008

You have candles at home and you enjoy the relaxing scent of lavender in your lotion. You may even practice aromatherapy in your own room or at the simplest put potpourri in your living room to enjoy that fresh smell.

Yet although you have done all this, can you really say that you know what aromatherapy is? And do you even have to know about aromatherapy in order to do it? Yes!

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils found in plants and placing them in various materials that will help diffuse their scent. Some use candles and light them up while others have diffusers at home that can fill a room with refreshed scents. Aromatherapy has become really popular in recent years, brought on by the fact that a lot of medical studies, have proven its efficacy in helping the muscles of the body relax and de-stress. It has also been shown to ease headaches and body pains without a massage.

Uses

Essential oils are extracted from plants. They have a wide variety of uses. One use is of course as a scent in candles or in potpourri. This is where the aroma comes from when you practice aromatherapy. Some essential oils are also used in lotions and in other toiletries, sometimes even in perfumes. This is of course not to be mistaken as the fragrant oils, which are synthetically made. Fragrant oils are chemicals that only copy the scent of the essential oils unlike essential oils that are purely natural.

Because they are all natural, they are used not only for aromatherapy but also for the skin. These oils are applied on the skin to treat burns, cuts and abrasions. Some are even used for skin problems. Oils in aromatherapy can be mixed with what is called a carrier oil like jojoba or almond. This is because essential oils can be very potent and may harm the skin when directly applied.

Storage

But don’t think that essential oils in aromatherapy can be used anytime. They also dry up and becomes stale. Essential oils should be properly stored in a cool dark place to avoid or at the most reduce the possibility of spoilage. It is also a good idea to buy essential oils that are stored in glass bottles rather than in plastic ones as it is less likely for them to deteriorate. When stored properly, oils may last for about a year.

What Is Tai Chi?

Filed Under (Fitness, Inner Peace, Meditation, Relaxation, Spiritual Growth, Wellness) by Kevin on 22-08-2008

If you were to translate Tai Chi into English you would get something that you may not have expected as it translates into “Supreme Ultimate Force”. This means that it is a state of unlimited and complete capability. This type of practice confronts the concepts between Yin and Yang, which rule over the four realms and five elements. Without these two very important aspects there would be no world, as they are what created it and control everything about it. Without Yin there can be no Yang and vice versa. Tai Chi can also be translates as meaning Unity, Oneness, or being one with.

Tai Chi uses the concept of negative and positive energy to draw ones force from the body itself. To be good at Tai Chi one must be at one with himself and have the ultimate discipline of their body. Tai Chi has been practiced since ancient times and is still practiced today even in the western society. It is a series of slow movements that resemble Yoga or moving mediation, in fact you can even say that it is a mix of the two. The different movements end up making forms of the various poses of several animals and birds. Tai Chi is not considered a martial art because of its slow movements.

Tai Chi is considered by practitioners as a relaxing exercise that calls upon the body, mind, soul and environment to work together. However, there are some who look at Tai Chi as a type of combat due to its considerable force behind the movements. If you know anything about Chinese medicine you know that it is all about the energy force that flows through the body that is known as Chi. If for some reason the flow of good Chi is disrupted, the person can fall ill. Tai Chi is a way of keeping the good chi circulating throughout the body as it should.

It is believed that Chi circulates through the body just as you blood would, reaching all organs. Therefore, because Tai Chi helps circulate Chi energy it is directly connected to other types of Chinese medicine such as acupuncture and other oriental healing. Common knowledge is that Tai Chi is practiced to promote tranquility and calmness in ones mind. The mind has to be focused in order to do the complicated movements of Tai Chi. By doing Tai Chi the person will learn many new skills that include motor control, balance, rhythm of movement and alignment of the limbs and body.

By practicing Tai Chi often enough the person will learn how to have better posture when sitting, standing, walking and even running. There are so many different benefits to practicing Tai Chi that they can not all be discussed. However, I can tell you that Tai Chi is a great way to have a healthier body and be more in control of it. By doing Tai Chi you can use a type of “combat” in a slow way without hurting the opponent. However, if you are looking for a self defense martial arts you are looking in the wrong place.

We can’t avoid the headlines and magazine covers sporting photographs of the rich and famous are flaunted at supermarket checkouts. Celebrities seem to live glamorous, fairy tale lives.

Have you ever felt just a little bit jealous? Have you thought “I want what they’ve got”? Do you feel that you too deserve the fairy tale?

Let’s face it, we can dream our lives away, and it won’t make any difference. It is time for a dose of reality. Do you really want constant scrutiny in the media? Do you want every heart ache and every extra pound to be international news? Few people really would.

Perhaps you would be content to be a cut above the rest of the pack. In other words, successful enough to enjoy some glamour without becoming such a celebrity that your life becomes public property.

So, what do you have to do to become a cut above the rest? The following is a one week program designed to change your life. If you simply focus on one step every day you will experience a gradual transformation of your life.

1. Discover your life purpose. There is no point desiring to be an actor when your talent is in something else. It is important to become aware of your gifts and then find a purpose that makes use of them and fits well with your beliefs and values. Once you identify your purpose in life, you will have a compass that can guide you to true happiness. If you are hoping for prosperity and happiness but are wandering aimlessly through life, you may well be disappointed.

2. What are your values? It is important to know your own values because if your goals are not congruent with what you truly believe, you will find it difficult to succeed. Start by making a list of the five most important values you possess. Then compare your goals to this list. If they don’t agree, you may need to change your goals.

3. Address your needs. Shakespeare said “To thine own self be true.” To live authentically, you need to live with integrity. A part of this requires that you acknowledge your own needs and do what you can to meet them. When we have unmet needs, we can live unhappy, stressed lives. Some of your needs may not actually be good and rather than meet them, you may have to deal with them. For example, if you have the need to control others, that is a need best overcome. However, before you can deal with your needs you have to know what they are. List four needs that are most important to you. If you don’t do what you can to meet your needs, you can end up living a depressed and stressed life.

4. Discover your passions.
Invest some time in finding out what makes your heart sing. In other words, what are you passionate about? Become enthusiastic about life. Let yourself be inspired.

5. Develop a strong inner life. Modern life is so busy that sometimes it is hard to find quiet time. However, this is essential if you want transform your life from the inside out. By regularly spending time in meditation or relaxing in nature, you will become more connected with your own spirit. Deep breathing can be very calming and help you release stress. Sometimes, you can get the same effect by sitting in a room with low lighting and enjoying classical music.

6. Acknowledge your strengths. Do you know what your strengths are? If you don’t, ask someone close to you. List three of your positive characteristics and be willing to share this list with friends. By simply acknowledging your strengths to yourself and others, you will grow in self confidence.

7. Be a giver. Contribute to the world. We are all connected to one another and when we help others we are, in turn, lifted up ourselves.

This is a simple seven day plan to improve your life. By simply working through these seven points, you can gain a winning edge. You simply have to desire to become a better person and be willing to see yourself through the eyes of other people.
