If you’re like most people, you have some stressful days at work. Sometimes, when these build up, you may feel overwhelmed. But if you do just a few simple things, you can eliminate that stress at the end of each day and stay peaceful and calm all week long.

If you’re on a mission to be able to relax into your evening, then you’ll likely find the following at-home activities very helpful.

Try these simple, effective methods to help your mind and body become calm after a tense day at work:

1.	Soak your feet in warm water. This is a surprisingly easy way to encourage relaxation. Some therapists and spiritual teachers will tell you that the feet store a lot of energy. Soaking them in a bath of warm water will help positive energies start flowing into the feet and eventually throughout the rest of the body. Some tips:

•	Avoid making the water too hot; you want to soothe your feet, not scald them!
•	Add some aromatherapy oils to the water for added relaxation.
•	Soak your feet while you’re doing something else that can help you unwind, like watching your favorite program on television or listening to calming music.

2.	Settle into a lavender bath. This is one of the best ways to relieve stress after a tough day at work! Lavender essence is known to instantly soothe ones’ senses and completely calm the nerves. All you need to do is fill your tub with water, add a few drops of lavender essential oil and jump in. You’ll instantly feel the stress slipping away!

3.	Turn on some soothing music. The peaceful sounds of instrumentals or nature can easily release tension from your body or your busy mind. Here are some ideas for soothing music that can help you create peace after a stressful day at work:

•	Classical selections from Mozart or a symphonic orchestra
•	Nature sounds: ocean waves breaking against the rocks or the sound of birds chirping
•	Gentle spiritual music: Benedictine monks chanting or perhaps an African or Native American chant

4.	Try cucumber slices. After you’ve had your shower or bath, you can relax in bed with cool slices of cucumber placed on your closed eyes. Sometimes the entire body ends up feeling stressed when certain parts have been overworked. If you happen to spend a lot of time on the computer, soothing the eyes could easily bring relaxation to your whole body!

5.	Drink chamomile tea. Chamomile is an herb that you can rely on to calm and relax your senses and muscles. Try drinking a cup of chamomile before going to bed so you can get a good night’s sleep and feel rested in the morning.

After a few days of applying these at-home activities, you might even find that the stressors at work don’t impact you as easily. Because of this, your days will end up being less stressful overall. Eventually, you may find yourself needing these anti-stress activities less and less.

Remember that your body needs nurturing. Intentional relaxation is one way of taking care of your body. Stress can really take its toll, but if you try some techniques to relieve tension, you’ll soon find yourself healthier and happier than ever before.

Relaxing in the Midst of Stress

Stress management is an important practice that most people nowadays need to learn. With a fast paced working environment, people are constantly subjected to tremendous pressure that result to unpleasant levels of stress in their lives. You need to be able to cope quickly with the amount of stress that you have to deal with since it produces several negative effects on your body in mind.

First off, stress can cause your performance to drop because of your inability to focus on the tasks at hand. Stress can also affect your health and body. Oftentimes, stress can escalate into depression or anxiety. Relaxation is one of the best techniques used to cope with and reduce the symptoms of stress. Relaxation methods have been utilized for stress management during ancient times and they prove to be as effective today. Therefore, learning how to relax in the midst of too much stress in your everyday life will mean a world of difference.

Starting a Relaxation Practice

As with anything, starting a relaxation practice is often the biggest hurdle that people are faced with. Once you begin to notice that you seem to quickly lose energy and constantly change your mood, then maybe it’s time to re-evaluate yourself because this can be all caused by stress. There are several relaxation activities that help combat stress in your life whether as simple as deep breathing, stretching or meditation, to more advanced relaxation methods such as yoga or tai chi.

To experience the full benefits of such relaxation methods, you need to take time each day to perform them. Only then would you be able to harness its relieving power so you can benefit from stress relief. It does not have to take so much of your time each day, maybe at least 10 minutes to as much as 20 minutes is enough for stress management.

For better success at developing this practice, take note of the following tips:

•	Determine a given schedule for each day when you can perform these relaxation exercises. If possible, schedule once or twice a day, whichever is most convenient for you. Then, make sure you follow your schedule strictly.
•	Refrain from scheduling your relaxation practices near bedtime since you’re sleepiness could get in the way.
•	Never opt for an exercise method that could stress you out all the more. Find a level of practice that are most comfortable and feel relaxed with.

Stress Relief Through Deep Breathing

This is one of the easiest and simplest exercise you can perform to achieve stress relief. This would allow fresh air to get into your lungs. To perform effective deep breathing, follow these methods:

•	Sit straight with one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach.
•	Breathe through your nose, enough to make your stomach rise. Make sure that your chest produce little movements.
•	Use your mouth to exhale and push the air out with as much force as possible.
•	Repeat the same process. Take note of the rise and fall of your lower abdomen.

Muscle Relaxation, Yoga and Meditation

For further stress relief, you can perform different relaxation methods that involve your muscles and mind. In muscle relaxation, your objective is to tense and relax the various muscle groups in your body. To do this, find a comfortable position and start by taking slow and deep breaths. Then, create tension on your body by squeezing them tightly while counting slowly until its time to let go. Focus on the release of the tension in a specific body part until you feel relaxed. When doing this, start from foot and eventually move upwards.

Yoga and meditation are also two other techniques used in stress management methods. These are associated with slow and steady movements, as well as gentle stretching. This practice is best for relieving tension in the body and mind, which is why it is recommended for stress relief practices.

For centuries, meditation was used, is still in use and will continue to be used by many people in search of their inner selves and inner saints, of peace and quiet in body and mind, of awareness and attention to their environment. Indeed, it is time that you, too, apply the benefits of meditation to advance your lifelong quest for personal growth. However, before you do so, it is important that you acquire as much knowledge as you possibly can about meditation. After all, you want to gain optimal benefits from meditation, of which education will start you on the right path.

Definition of Meditation

Generally speaking, meditation is a mental discipline whereby your body and mind becomes attuned to each other and to the environment, hence, creating deeper self-awareness. In turn, your personal growth is promoted simply because you are more in touch with, more in tune to, and more in control of your inner self, which drives virtually everything that you perform in this life.

Although the popular notion we have of meditation is one of yogis in various states of body contortions, and various stages of mind awareness, the reality is simpler. You can mediate virtually anywhere, anytime! You will need practice, of course, to do so but the benefits are well worth the time and effort expended in learning the techniques of meditation.

Benefits of Meditation

Medical science has uncovered the physical benefits of meditation. These benefits include lowering blood pressure and slowing down breathing, both of which significantly contribute to an enhanced state of physical relaxation. Meditation has also been shown to improve the immune system, thus, leading to the ability of greater resistance to diseases and stress. And let’s face it – the better your physical health, the better you can pursue personal growth!

On the mental side, meditation makes it possible to tune in to your inner self and, hence, tap into the power that lies in each one of us. Yes, we are all pods of a powerful God, pods that we can harness to promote personal growth with the welfare of others in mind. Indeed, when you meditate, you promote a clearer mind and a healthier body, both of which are requisites for personal growth to commence onward and forward. And the best part – it is completely free and safe to apply in everyday life!

Tips in Meditation for Beginners

Lest you become intimidated with the popular images of meditation as a complex process, be reassured that you can start meditating with just these simple tips.

    * Start out with a simple meditation technique, which often means the most comfortable at your level. The purpose of meditation is to make you as relaxed as possible, not tense with apprehension at the complexity of the process. For example, you can assume a relaxed sitting position in a quiet room, take deep abdominal breaths to relax your body, and just focus on your breathing to clear your mind.

    * Start with doable periods of time. Although 30 minutes daily is ideal for personal growth purposes, it may not be possible in your busy life. Instead, you can deliberately set aside 5 minutes of your time each day for meditation and stick to it.

    * Sustain your efforts by finding ways to center yourself. You can listen to music if it relaxes you. You must acknowledge wayward thoughts and then let them go. You must go with the flow instead of struggling against meditation. You must relax if and when things do not go your way while meditating since there is plenty of time yet.

Most important of all, you must be open towards the limitless possibilities that meditation offers towards personal and professional growth. Indeed, meditation requires that you check in your skepticism at the door! Do so and you will reap the benefits of meditation in your life.

In conclusion, meditation is an excellent way to get in touch with your inner self, which will provide the drive and determination to pursue personal growth despite the odds along the way. You can start with simple meditation techniques on your spare time. Within our minds lies our greatest treasure – our inner selves. Harness it today and become happier, healthier and humbler in the face of the universe and of life.

If you find your life in disarray, you are living what society calls a “dysfunctional” life. This term simply means that things are not working as they should, which is something determined by you and your conscious mind. However, dysfunctions are not always viewed by the subconscious mind. For instance, if you were doing things you do not want to do such as smoking, overeating, being abusive, and so on, you would probably agree those are dysfunctional.

With self-hypnosis, you can remove the dysfunction from your life, so you can stop smoking, overeating, being abusive, etc. Self-hypnosis can help you become more patient while improving yourself and your actions. The key is to believe that self-hypnosis can benefit your life but first, you have to identify the dysfunction in your life so it can be addressed. Although sometimes hard for people to do, self-hypnosis can work if you get to the real source of the problem.

With this, you would learn how to find both symptoms and the problem. For instance, if you are a smoker, the problem is not the cigarettes but your need to smoke them. Remember, you cannot confuse action with cause. In other words, the need to smoke results in buying cigarettes, carrying them around, putting them in your mouth, lighting one, and inhaling. If you deal with one or all of these symptoms, regardless of how successful the self-hypnosis suggestions are, you will not get past the dysfunction. This means the craving to smoke will remain because the underlying source of the problem of why you are craving the cigarette is not yet addressed.

Now, let us say that you have a problem with overeating. Your need to eat and overeat is the source of the weight problem but the goal with self-hypnosis, you identify the reason you have the need and then change it. Once you do that, the overeating problem will stop. It could be the underlying problem has to do with stress of a job, recent divorce, sibling rivalry, being picked on at school, or any number of reasons. However, the dysfunction of the situation is what must be determined before self-hypnosis can work.

No matter the goal, the same ideology applies. Anything you want to overcome, biting your nails, swearing, being shy, etc, they all need overt behavior on your end. Keep in mind that passive dysfunction involves the absence of something, meaning you have some type of mental block. If you are struggling with passive dysfunction, then subconscious constructs are in the way of learning. Your goal with self-hypnosis is again, to uncover the existence of each dysfunction. Once you know what these dysfunctions are, you can then formulate suggestions that will work to remove them.

One way to determine the existence of any dysfunction is through ideomotor questioning. With this, you will be able to draw up effective suggestions so the subconscious mind signs off the suggestions. The process involves who, where, when, what, and why. As far as who, you would ask questions to find out if there are other people associated with the problem. For the where, is would be associated with location that could be the source of the problem. In other words, were you in a location that triggers your nervousness, nail-biting, smoking, overeating, and so on?

For the when, you want to identify the time of your life when the problem first started. If possible, determine the exact age or date, which will provide you with tremendous insight. Then you have the what. For this, you need to find out what specifically sets off the dysfunctional behavior. For instance, were you taunted by someone as a small child, did your parents yell at you, were you embarrassed at some point. All of these questions will help you find the crux of the problem. Finally, there is the why, which may help you understand why the behavior in the first place.

Once you have gone through this exercise looking for the keys to the dysfunctional behavior, you can use self-hypnosis to get past it. Again, with hypnotic suggestions being made the right way, you can begin to take control of the dysfunctional areas of your life, finding that you feel better and stronger about yourself. Hypnosis in any form is not an overnight fix but with practice and patience, you can overcome many dysfunctional aspects of your life for a brand new beginning.

Busy schedule, pressure at work, school requirements, bad relationship, peer pressure, family problems: these are some of the things that trigger stress. Most of them cannot be changed but that doesn’t mean you cannot do something about it.

Stress, in itself, is not bad. What makes stress destructive to our health is when we let it affect our lives and we begin to succumb to the negative effects of stress. What we should do, therefore, is to deal properly with stress.

Avoid stress

Many stressful situations are beyond our control and it also unhealthy if you always turn your back on situations that need to be addressed. But then, there are many stresses that are unnecessary. These things should be avoided as much as possible.

o Avoid people who cause you stress
o Trim down your to-do-list
o Learn how to say “no”
o Avoid sensitive topics such as politics and religion

Change Your Attitude

Setting high goals, taking on too many things at the same time, and seeing a particular event as a general thought can be stressful. Since it is an internal problem the solution should come from you.

o Recognize that you are stressed
o Adjust your standards
o Do not entertain negative thoughts
o Look at the bright side
o Think of a situation as an opportunity for growth.

Learn from Mistakes

You cannot avoid all stressful situations but you can learn from them. Think of ways where you can avoid encountering stress in the future. Sometimes, it involves reviewing your whole perspective on life and changing the way you relate to others.

o Accept other’s opinions and be open for suggestions
o Express your frustrations, annoyance and anger to a trusted friend, a family member or a counselor instead of keeping it to yourself.
o Take care of it. Do not allow yourself to be at the mercy of the situation. Take control of your life.
o Set priorities. Manage your time.

Acceptance

Death of a loved one, illness, weather, traffic, and economic recession are some of the things that are beyond your control. Accept that you cannot do anything about it. What you can do is to find a way where you can make the most out of these situations.

o Learn to forgive
o Move on
o Talk to somebody
o Do not treat each situation as a reason for giving up

Achieving a cure for panic attacks is challenging but certainly not impossible. Millions of people suffer from some anxiety or panic disorder and many are able to completely overcome it and move on to live a confident, normal life.

But it does take dedication and some positive thinking to get there. If you truly want to eliminate the panic attacks and you take the action to overcome them, then you’ll certainly have no problem achieving your dream of living a life free of these symptoms.

Although there are no known medical cures for panic attacks, people often choose to follow natural treatments overtaking prescription medications, which can have drastic side effects.

It is vital that a heart attack or other serious physical problem is not mistaken for a panic attack. If a person has never had a panic attack before then they should consider seeing a doctor to rule out any another medical condition. However if you are familiar with the symptoms of a panic attack and have already consulted with a physician, then you will likely know when you are having one.

Panic attack symptoms include:

- Heart palpitations
- Sweating
- Shortness of breath
- Choking sensation
- Nausea
- Shaking or trembling
- A feeling of loss of control
- Fear of dying
- Chest pain or tightening
- Chills
- Hot flashes

The best panic cure seems to be one that changes the psychological thought patterns of a sufferer. This might include:

- Relaxation techniques
- Slow breathing training
- Cognitive therapy
- Exposure therapy
- Relapse prevention

Many people who have anxiety will have regular panic attacks, while others will only experience them very infrequently. Sufferers also find that they have good and bad days. On a good day you might be able to face situations that would otherwise cause an attack. But on bad days, facing these particular situations may be a terrifying thought.

Many people who suffer from anxiety thus try to avoid trigger situations, events and environments. However this is not the best way to establish a panic cure. Confronting the trigger can be the best way to get over it and this is the goal of many types of panic attack treatments.

The first thing to do is simply relax your entire body and let the tension ease as much as possible. Then try some deep breathing exercises and remind yourself that everything is ok.

For exact techniques on how to decrease panic attacks, there are several resources available. The popular guide, Panic Away, is one example of a resource that is readily accessible and outlines the steps to take to reduce the impact of panic attacks in your life. You can be successful.

Stress is part of everyday life. And since there is nothing we can do to totally avoid it, we have to deal with it so it will not interfere with our lives. The following are some useful tips to deal with stress:

•	Set realistic goals. Forget about perfection. It will only frustrate you.

•	Stop wasting your time regretting on things that didn’t happen. They have already passed and it is already too late to change anything. What you can do is to learn from your experiences and avoid, as much as possible, repeating the same mistakes.

•	Do not worry about the things that may not happen. First, it doesn’t happen yet. Second, it may not even happen. Last, you cannot get anything good when you worry about the things that may not happen.

•	Cramming is the best way to get cramped. At times it can be a necessary evil. But cramming as a habit creates constant stress and must be stopped.

•	Do something fun for a change. If you are living in a constant stress, then it is about time to give yourself a break. Take a vacation. Go somewhere peaceful. Get a massage, a tattoo or a pet. Buy something for your house, for yourself and for your loved ones. Treat yourself. Invite your friends to a house party. The point is to have fun!

•	Practice deep breathing exercises and other relaxation techniques.

•	If you believe in prayers, pray. Read the Bible, the Koran, the Torah or anything that will calm your mind and spirit.

•	Exercise daily and eat a well-balanced diet. Having a healthy body gives you more resistance to stress.

•	Think positive. Everything can be seen as good or bad. You just have to take your pick, but if you want to pick something that will help you deal with stress better, then the former will do the trick.

•	Talk to someone. A counselor, your parents or your good friends should be able to help you with your troubles.

•	Organize everything. From simple daily activities to your goal in life, you should be able to set aside things you do not need and organize the things that matter to you.

•	Manage your time wisely. You only got 24 hours in a day and 1/3 of it you spend asleep. So you only have about 16 to do something good for the day. Set your priorities and balance your time between work and play.

If you were to ask 100 people what they believe hypnosis feels like, the majority would say, “the sense of floating”, “being asleep”, or “totally unaware of surroundings”. In truth, people who are hypnotized are very much aware of what is being done and said, hearing each word spoken. In fact, unless the person was to go into an extremely deep state of hypnosis, he or she would not feel any different from right now. If you have been thinking about hypnosis but have concerns that you will drift off somewhere and never return or fall into a trance whereby you are unaware of activity, then you have nothing to worry about because hypnosis is nothing like that at all.

When being hypnotized by a hypnotherapist or hypnotist, or if being hypnotized by self-hypnosis, you are lying down or reclining in your favorite, overstuffed chair. Most experts would tell you that you feel as if you have just settled in and now, you are watching a movie or reading a great book. The only real sense of “feeling” that you might have is an overall calm, mellow, or weightlessness. Again, if you do slip into a deeper state that you might feel as if you had a few drinks but without the fuzziness, headache, or other side effects. With hypnosis, there is an almost euphoric sense or peace and tranquility.

The interestingly thing is that you could be in a very light state, actually communicating with the hypnotist or hypnotherapist and not even realize you are hypnotized. Because of this, when you work with a professional, that person needs to be specially trained to understand preinduction discussion, with after hypnosis discussion. In other words, you want a professional that will not just ramble on about nonsensical things but be using the conversation during this “light” time as preinduction, setting the state of hypnosis so to speak. That way, you are gradually brought to the level where you need to be for your goal to e achieved.

The thing to remember with hypnosis is that when in a hypnotic state, certain abilities are improved. For example, your ability to recall memories, be creative, responsiveness, and imagery are all expanded. If you were in a very, light hypnotic state that does not mean you would not respond to suggestions being made by the hypnotist or hypnotherapist. However, experts believe that when the subconscious mind is taken into a deeper state, these abilities are strengthened even further, which means the hypnosis can be a greater success. For some people, this ability makes hypnosis appealing while for others, it raises questions of concern. However, you can be assured that when done by a professional, hypnosis is worthwhile, not scary, and not dangerous.

The problem is that Hollywood has glamorized hypnosis for years, making people believe you fall into this deep trance, lose all consciousness, and do whatever the hypnotist wants you to do. This misnomer has pushed many people away from trying hypnosis, which is a real shame. When done correctly and by an expert who has proper training and credentials, hypnosis can help you overcome all types of problems. As an example, if you have been trying to lose weight but cannot change the numbers on the scale, hypnosis can help change that. If you want to stop smoking, again, hypnosis can help. If you suffer from some severe illness and the pain is too much to bear, hypnosis can bring you much-needed relief.

The best thing for anyone interested in being hypnotized is to educate themselves first. Therefore, if this is something you have been considering, go out to get some reputable books such as “Hypnotism Today” by LeCron & Bordeaux to understand exactly what hypnosis is, how it works, and how it feels. Chances are that you will be amazed at what this method can do. Another great book that can enlighten you about hypnosis is called “Hypnotherapy” by Dave Elman.

Although hypnosis has been around for hundreds and hundreds of years, it is something coming back to life, as more and more people begin to understand that you do have feeling and control. Today, many leading experts in hypnosis have written books or put together videos and/or tapes to teach people just like you what hypnosis is all about. Most people who are hypnotized will tell you the experience was nothing but positive. You too will find that you feel relaxed, rejuvenated, and recharged. As well as your original problem melting away, you will likely feel better overall, both physically and mentally.

Powerful hypnotic suggestions are the key to having a successful session. One alternative for this success is ideomotor questioning, which is valuable with suggestion validation. Keep in mind that subconscious validation does not automatically guarantee you will experience success but it does provide you with confirmation that you are using the suggestion the right way. To validate a suggestion, you can ask questions such as those listed below:

•	Is the hypnotic suggestion being made an acceptable one?
•	Will the suggestion give work and be effective?
•	How quickly will the suggestion work?
•	Is there something else that I should do to achieve the results wanted?

Another important part of using powerful hypnotic suggestion is by keeping good records. Keeping good records is important for many reasons specific to ideomotor questioning. For starters, questions need to be very specific and suitable, writing them down before they are asked. Therefore, we recommend you writer down questions before asking them. Just remember to write one down at a time since following questions will typically depend on the previous questions.

Secondly, you also want to avoid repeating, asking the same questions over and over. Third, with ideomotor questioning for your hypnosis session, you will be going through many questions and answers that will prove to be valuable to you down the road. Therefore, your questions should be designed as a future reference. If you do not write them down with good record keeping, you will not be able to remember them.

Finally, powerful hypnotic suggestions and keeping a written record go hand-in-hand, having a positive and lasting effect on the subconscious mind. One alternative to find out the reasons your subconscious mind responds better with written records is to conduct a questioning session for this specific reason. For this, you will be asking a tremendous number of questions, allowing the subconscious mind time to reveal its own dynamics.

Now, just as ideomotor questioning and keeping good records of questions for your hypnosis session can be helpful; there are some things with suggestions that can make things worse. In fact, some suggestions can do harm. Any flawed suggestion or suggestions that work against the subconscious mind and not with it will only make things far worse. With this, you typically see errors the “I can’t” problem.

With hypnosis, you want to stay away from impossibilities, the “I can’t syndrome”. Remember that with hypnosis suggestions, nothing horrible is going to happen to you such as growing a third eye. Therefore, trying to achieve something that is possible to include losing weight, stopping smoking, and so on, will not do any physical harm to you. However, when you try to achieve the impossible, your subconscious mind’s acceptance of the hypnosis will be blocked. Therefore, realize that hypnosis suggestions should be geared toward you achieving things that are possible.

Another consideration in trying to use powerful hypnotic suggestions is that placebo effects can make things worse when under negative conditions. However, when used in the right way, placebo effects can be a positive thing. The challenge is that when using placebo, the person being hypnotized would need to be naïve, not being aware of what will take place with the hypnosis.

The bottom line is to create powerful hypnotic suggestions; you need to follow some simple guidelines as provided in this article. By taking the appropriate steps, you will have far more success in overcoming the thing you are trying to conquer. Rather than shy aware from the benefits of hypnosis, simply learn about suggestions and the suitable way to form questions. You will be amazed at how the ideomotor method of questioning will make such a huge difference in your success with hypnosis.

Kneel on a thick carpet or blanket with your knees close together. Sit back on your heels and stretch up from your hips, balancing your head well so a line drawn through ear, shoulder, elbow and hip would be straight. You should sit up in this posture for greatest benefits.

The Locust (Salabhasana)

Most yoga students are familiar with this posture. Lie flat, face down, chin on floor. Make your hands into fists and push them either under your thighs to help the lift, or place them alongside your body. Breathe out and lift legs from your hips, tightening your buttocks and stretching your legs up and back. Hold position for as long as possible, breathe out, return to starting posture and repeat.

The Dog Stretch (Adho mukha svanasana)

Lie face down, legs stretched back, buttocks tightened and knees pulled back. Place hands just below shoulders, breathe out and lift head, then chest, shoulders and torso, pushing down from your pelvis and straightening your arms. From the back of your head to your tailbone, your body should be curved back. Push shoulders back and down. Push head back more. Stay like this as long as possible with normal breathing. Come down very slowly, and relax.

The Twist (Bhardwajasana)

Kneel on the floor and sit back, bringing both feet to the right of your hips. Straighten your right arm, bring it across your body and turn to the left. Place your hand, palm down under your left knee. Breathe out, turn your body more to the left and clasp your right elbow with your left-hand, from the back. Turn your head and gaze over your right shoulder. Fold position for a few breaths and then twist and look back over your left shoulder. Shoulders should be at right angles to the body. Come back to starting position and repeat on other side. You should do this posture once every hour if you have lower back pain.
