When you first wake up in the morning, do you find your mind rushed with worries of the upcoming day? Do you immediately feel like you’re on the verge of panicking and don’t understand why?

Morning anxiety is a problem that affects a lot of people and that number only seems to be growing. Our schedules continue to get more and more packed but the amount of time in each day remains the same. This feeling of not having enough time in the day to get everything done, that we think we need to, can cause us to feel like every moment has to be used to the fullest, multitasking whenever possible. However, this can lead to us feeling increasingly stressed and overwhelmed.

This post is meant to provide some tips that can help reduce the anxiety you feel in the morning, so let’s get started.

Prepare the night before

Try to get as much ready as you can the night before. You can do things like laying out the clothes that you are going to wear the next day and making sure they are already pressed. Prepare a lunch for yourself and your kids. Put anything you are taking with you in an assigned spot near the door (nothing is more frustrating than not knowing where you left your keys).

You can also prepare for the next day before you leave the office. Try to organize and put away any papers you are going to need later. Respond to any emails you are able to. And just see if there is anything else you can take care of before you leave.

Do some stretching and meditation

Even if you have to wake up a little bit earlier in order to accomplish this, it is well worth it. Stretching and meditating helps decrease the production of stress hormones and increase the production of endorphins or “feel good” hormones. It will also get the blood flowing and make you feel more alert.

Plan something fun

You want to give yourself a reason to get out of bed and to get through work. It doesn’t have to be anything complicated. It can be just renting that movie you have been wanting to see or inviting the guys/gals over for some pizza. The important thing is just to have something you can look forward to at the end of the day.

Put a time limit

If you have to check your email and social network sites as soon as you wake up, then you want to put a time limit on these before you go on them, do this while at work also. These activities can sap up all the free time you have if you let them.

Put it on paper

This you can do the night before. If you have something nagging at you before you go to bed or even after you’re in bed and you just can’t get it off your mind, it can be helpful to write it down on paper. This can help put it in perspective and help you to not be too concerned about it anymore.

Spend time with family

Studies show that feeling lonely in the morning can increase morning anxiety. So try to sit down and have breakfast with the family or, if you live alone, it can help just calling up a friend or family member to say good morning.

In today’s frantic and fast-paced world, everything seems to happen at breakneck speed. It’s vital that you take care of yourself so you remain calm and happy throughout the day. Thankfully, tools like yoga and meditation provide your mind and body with an opportunity to learn to deal with stress in an effective way.

Meditation and yoga exercise the mind. Just as your body needs regular exercise to remain fit and healthy, so does your mind. Once you practice these disciplines regularly, you’ll be equipped to relax in even the most stressful situations. Your mind will stay at peace while you keep your body fit.

Try these easy tips to fill your life with the peace and happiness you crave through yoga and meditation:

1.	Make time to meditate. Meditation can be done anywhere and at any time. Once you’ve practiced meditation for a while, you’ll find that your natural response to stress will be to meditate and relax.

•	Yoga teachers recommend that you practice early in the morning before starting the day for maximum effectiveness.

•	Many forms of meditation can be done during your morning commute to work, while waiting in line at the grocery store, or in the midst of other everyday tasks.

•	Children can use meditation to increase their concentration and mental focus. Meditation is also a good way for the elderly to keep mentally fit.

2.	Find a good place to meditate. The best place to practice meditation is in an open space, like a park or garden. This ensures proper oxygen intake and revitalizes the body.

•	Find a place where you can spend a few minutes without being interrupted. Seek a room or outdoor location that contains as few distractions as possible to maximize the effectiveness of your meditation.

3.	Focus on your breathing. The key to being able to relax on demand, even in the most stressful situations, is to learn to breathe in a way that supports your body.

•	Your stomach should stick out when you breathe in, as your lungs fill up with air.

•	At first, you’ll need to consciously focus on your breathing. The more you practice, the quicker effective breathing will become second nature.

•	Slow, deep breaths are the focus of most meditation exercises. Shallow breathing causes you to feel more stressed. Deep breathing causes a relaxation response within your body.

4.	Find your perfect meditation. There are different forms of meditation, so keep experimenting with different meditation styles until you find one that you feel comfortable with.

•	The benefits of meditation occur over a period of time, so you’ll want to be comfortable with the techniques you choose to use. Feeling comfortable will ensure that you’ll stick with it long enough to see that the benefits are worth the effort.

You can learn different yoga and meditation techniques through classes taught by expert instructors or at home through DVDs and videos. Whichever way you choose to learn, the key is to begin today. The sooner you begin, the sooner you’ll experience the life changing benefits of being able to relax and feel happy in any situation.

More often than not, we tend to focus on too many things every day, leading to confusion, anxiety, and annoyance. This stress can be hard on the mind and body, but the good news is that you can lower your stress levels and calm your mind, helping yourself to feel better each day.

In fact, you can overcome these issues with a few simple techniques!

First, acknowledge that you must take time for yourself. Being all things to all people isn’t realistic, and neither is doing everything and solving all problems or concerns in one day. No one should expect that of you! If they do, you must recognize that it’s not healthy, and you must do what’s right and best for you. Your health and happiness could depend on it.

Ways to Calm Your Mind

Meditation and prayer are two of the biggest ways to calm a restless mind, but they aren’t the only things you can do. There are many other choices to help you feel better and live a stress-free life. You might also consider:

•	Volunteering or focusing on helping others
•	Exercising
•	Listening to music
•	Using your mind for joyous pursuits that interest you
•	Playing with children or pets

Everyone has different things they enjoy in life, and you should find yours and practice them when you start to feel stressed or your thoughts try to run away from you. Avoid letting your thoughts talk you out of your dreams. Your dreams are yours; embrace them!

Being busy is not the problem when it comes to your mind. Being busy with things that aggravate you and make you feel down is the problem. Instead of dwelling on things that upset you, deal with them, let them go, and move on to things that you enjoy. You can do this with your thoughts, just like you would with a physical task in the workplace or at home.

Lower Your Stress Levels Each Day

Stress begins in your mind as thoughts, but it can manifest itself physically. You may feel tense, anxious, uneasy, angry, or have aches and pains you can’t really find a cause for. If stress continues all the time and becomes chronic, your health could be compromised.

You can let stress go and feel good every day.

Try these strategies to lower your stress:

1.	Focus on what matters to you. What’s important in your life? Be proactive about your goals and priorities. When you’re working toward something that you want, it makes you feel good about yourself and your future.

2.	Find both physical and mental ways to release your stress. Releasing your stress every day keeps it from building up inside you. Make the conscious choice to start each day fresh, without the stress from the day before.

•	What relaxes you? Music? Hobbies? Spending time with your family? Enjoy a healthy dose of relaxation every day.

•	Get as much exercise as possible. Exercise refreshes your body with a surge of oxygen and releases endorphins, the “feel good” hormone. Even if there’s no time for an exercise session, take the stairs instead of the elevator, park far away from the building so you can walk, and play with your kids or pets.

3.	Practice these strategies consistently. Work on releasing your stress every day, even on days when you don’t feel as much stress, so it won’t be a struggle when you really need it. When you’re feeling good, it’s natural to forget about letting stress go, but it’s important to avoid getting complacent.

•	Keep practicing and improving, even when you feel great!

Whichever techniques you choose to calm your mind and lower your levels of stress, ensure it’s the right fit for you and your lifestyle. Only you know what you really need and what makes you feel safe and at peace.

If you practice this peacefulness each day, it won’t be long before you start to feel calmer, even in situations where you would have previously been over the edge. Your thoughts will be clearer, instead of jumbled and racing. Physically, you’ll feel stronger, too, because your body will be free from the affliction of stress and anxiety.

Stress can easily take control of an unsuspecting person. When you allow stress into your life and let it take control, you will ultimately face an anxiety-ridden future. This can easily be avoided if you just take control of your own life and keep your stress at bay.

There are a lot of things in our lives that can cause stress. Learn what they are and find ways to prevent the stress from happening. Our financial situations can cause stress. Going into debt has almost become a way of life these days as more people are enticed by the luxury items we feel we just have to have.

Prevention of that debt is the best way to avoid stress, but unfortunately for most people, it’s far too late for that. The best way is to set up a monthly budget of what you need to pay your bills, buy groceries and other essential items and figure a little extra for emergencies.

If you stick to that budget, you can pay off your debt faster without feeling so distraught about it. When the debt is gone, you’ll be left with an overwhelming sense of pride instead of those anxiety-ridden feelings.

Working too many hours can cause a lot of stress as well. By spending more time with your job and less time for yourself and your family, you can cause so much stress that your work and your family life end up suffering.

You can easily avoid that by learning to balance your work life with your home life. Your mind has to be with your job, but only while you’re working. When you leave your job for the day, leave work where it belongs – at work. Your mind needs to be with your family when you get home.

Saying yes to everyone who asks you for help can get quite stressful. You neglect yourself when you say yes to too many people who ask. Learn how to say no once in awhile. Help others when you can, but don’t go overboard.

It really is okay to say no to a friend, co-worker or family member. Keep your peace of mind and only help one person at a time. Don’t be afraid to ask for help in return. This should never be a one-sided thing.

Trying to tackle too many problems at one time can also cause a lot of stress. You’re a human being, not a robot. No one can handle that many problems at once, so tackle one at a time. Your brain can take in a lot of information, but it can overload as well, so do it a favor and try to solve only one problem at a time.

There are so many other things that cause stress in our lives. When you figure out what’s causing you stress, come up with ways to combat it before it takes control. Stress builds up and can ultimately explode causing you more problems, so concentrate on finding ways to beat it before it beats you.

All too often, marriages end in divorce because stress builds to a point that’s so overwhelming for the couple, they feel they have no way to control it. Instead, the stress comes out in frustration, anger and outbursts. These continue until the couple can no longer live with their spouse.

The key to keeping a marriage going is to learning how to cope with everyday stress and alleviate it right away before it gets out of control. Here are some of the most common stressors in a marriage and how to handle them:

Finances

This is probably the number one reason that marriages end in divorce. The constant worry of how they’re going to pay the bills consumes their every waking minute. Although it’s a normal thing to be worried about, it doesn’t have to ruin your marriage.

Learn how to live within your means. It’s always nice to have that new car, but realistically, get only what you can afford. Set up a budget and stick with it. Make sure your bills get paid each month and then use some of what’s left over to buy those unnecessary items or put it away into savings and save up for that new car you want.

Don’t let your credit card spending get out of control. If needed, check with a credit counseling agency and see if you can get your credit card debt consolidated so you make only one payment vs. making three or four.

Raising Children

Most couples have frequent arguments about how to discipline a child when they’ve done something wrong or how to bring them up in this world. They each come into a marriage with two different family values.

These values can clash, resulting in arguments between the couple. Instead, you should bring them to the table, coming up with a compromise to bring the two values together and personalizing them to make it work for your family. Remember, what worked for your parents won’t always work for you. If you work together as a team, you can overcome the stress of raising your children or at least minimize it.

Keeping your feelings inside

Marriages can’t work if the couple can’t get their feelings out in the open to talk them out. If left inside, they can bottle up and inevitably explode in an outburst of anger. Don’t keep them inside. If you talk openly, you might be able to find a compromise together.

There are many more stressors that come up in a marriage. Don’t be afraid to seek some professional help from a counselor. They can help you identify the stressors and help you work them out. If stress is brought under control, your marriage will only get stronger.

Stress is a normal facet in our lives. We thrive on a little stress because it keeps us focused and enables us to stay mentally alert. Sometimes, though, stress can get out of control and cause us to have anxiety attacks.

The anxiety attacks can come on unnoticed and they can seem like everyday stress-related problems. If these attacks continue to go untreated, they can become out of control in an unsuspecting person.

In order to recognize the indicators for an anxiety attack, you have to understand the symptoms of stress first. Each person experiences stress differently, but some of the general symptoms of stress include problems with memory, confusion, difficulty in concentrating and racing thoughts.

You’ll see some of those symptoms in anxiety attacks as well, but you’ll notice more of the physical symptoms when an attack is occurring. Some people experience shortness of breath, pounding heart rhythm, trembling or shakiness within the body, stomach aches and hot or cold flashes.

When the attack has reached its high point, you’ll notice a feeling of being out of control or losing a grip on yourself. Unfortunately, those experiencing anxiety attacks don’t always recognize their symptoms as an attack.

It sometimes takes someone else who knows them well to realize that there’s something wrong. Once anxiety attacks are suspected in a person, they need to seek out medical attention from a professional who can determine if they’re anxiety attacks and not another medical-related illness.

When the physician rules out anything medical and determines that they are anxiety attacks, he may start them on some type of medication to help relieve them of some of the symptoms and encourage the patient to seek a counselor.

A counselor will listen to the patient’s history and determine what stressing factors could be causing their symptoms. Once the patient gets a handle on the contributing factors for their attacks, a treatment plan would then be set up, based on the patient’s situation. A counselor can help them work through the stressors and show them ways to alleviate the stress causing their symptoms.

There are many websites devoted to the use of relaxation techniques that reduce symptoms to a more manageable level and breathing exercises to improve oxygen intake, which could help slow down a racing heart rhythm.

When everyday stress escalates, there are many ways to settle the overwhelming feelings of edginess. Getting the proper help is a start to calming the anxious emotions raging within you. Finding out what stressors cause those emotions and learning how to combat them can bring a sense of relief and feelings of comfort to know that there is hope.

Stress in the workplace is an extremely common thing most people have to face. Stress is inevitable for most workplaces, but the key is to learn how to control it. You can manage stress and keep it to a minimum if you recognize the factors that can lead to stress in your workplace and utilize ways to minimize the effect they can have on you.

Here are some of the common stressors in the workplace and ways to handle them:

Rude co-workers

Most of us have had to deal with rude co-workers at one time or another. Having to be exposed to that rudeness can cause a lot of stress for anyone, making their job performance suffer needlessly.

There are a few ways to handle this kind of situation. First of all, decide if it’s something that really bothers you or not. Sometimes just ignoring them is all you need to do your job effectively.

When ignoring them doesn’t work, you may want to try talking the situation out with them. Sometimes, they may not even know that they’re coming across as being rude. Getting it out in the open relieves that added stress.

If that doesn’t help, you’ll have to go to your boss and tell them what’s going on and that it’s been affecting your work. Sometimes they’ll take ahold of the situation themselves in order for things to run smoothly.

Mean boss

Maybe it’s not a rude co-worker you’re dealing with, but a mean boss. Putting up with a boss that makes you miserable can be very stressful. You’ll want to try talking with them first to see if that helps the situation.

If that doesn’t work, then you’ll have to go over their head to someone else and tell them what’s going on. Keep a list of the things the boss has said and done and share it with an HR person or whomever you discuss your problem with.

There’s no reason to have to put up with that at the workplace when it’s not warranted. It’ll cause too much stress for you and make your job performance slide. Most companies will work with you to resolve the problem.

Huge workload

Having more work than you can handle can make stress inevitable. Take on only what you can handle at one time. Ask for help from others and be willing to reciprocate and help them when they need it. A lot of things can be accomplished with teamwork.

Stress in the workplace can come from many other sources as well. Learn what causes your stress and find out how to work through it. Your workplace can be a stressful environment, but don’t let that stress get the best of you.

Stress is a natural human reaction to situations that life throws at us when we’re not expecting it. It can cause physical as well as psychological problems and can escalate to severe anxiety attacks if those problems are not met head on.

One of the first treatments recommended for those with severe stress problems is some type of medication to help alleviate the symptoms they’re experiencing. The medications don’t work for everyone and it’s not an easily embraced idea for others who don’t care for the side effects those medications cause.

Those who don’t want to go the medication route will be happy to know there are other ways to beat stress that don’t involve the act of popping pills every day. There are several different options to choose from to lessen the negative consequences stress can bring.

Taking a long walk to clear your head is one of the best ways to alleviate stress. Walking is an excellent form of exercise for your body as well as your mind. You can walk out your frustration so that you’ll be able to come back refreshed and tackle your problems again.

Give your mind a break with soft, relaxing music. Our brains take in lots of information from the things that we read, hear and see every second of every day. Your brain is an amazing organ, but it’s not immune to overloads.

The overload can cause stress to escalate and bring on a number of problems for us, so give it a break. Listening to relaxing music will ease the racing thoughts and help us to think clearly when we return to our problems.

Find a hobby to do and be sure to make time for it at least once a week. Everyone needs to get out of the mindset of having to deal with problems and decisions within our lives. By giving yourself something else to focus on, you can gain a sense of accomplishment in an area of your life where your job and financial situation may not be up to par.

You could start a craft project, go golfing or find something else you know you’ll enjoy doing. Another option you could try is to treat yourself to a massage. Stress can cause your muscles to tighten and ache, making your stress worse. A massage can loosen up those muscles, which will loosen up your mind and you can then be ready to face your life again refreshed and renewed.

Don’t be afraid to let your emotions surface. If you’re so stressed that you want to cry, then let those tears flow. Built up stress has to come out somehow, so it’s a lot safer to let it out through tears than to wait until it explodes into uncontrollable anger.

If anger is your first reaction to the stress, let it come out in a controlled situation like a punching bag. Control your stress before it starts to take control of you. Medications are one answer to alleviating the stress, but they’re not the only answer. Find what works best for you and beat that stress in your life.

There are stress and stress causing factors that we live with everyday or at least have been a part of our life that we can cope with effectively. However there is stress that can sometimes be overwhelming which may cause an unhealthy reaction. For these kinds of stress the best action is to seek outside help.

Consult your Doctor

Stress that goes unchecked for periods of time or on a sustained level would ultimately take its toll on the body and on the mind. When the body is undergoing stress, toxins are released that increase the body’s susceptibility to a host of ailments and infections. Stress that is not managed properly can create numerous chronic conditions where the bottom line often is the inability to function normally. Your doctor is well trained and experienced enough to know the severity and the extent at which your stress affects the normal functioning of your body and can recommend medications that can help you on a short term basis. Your doctor can also be a source of good information if you need a referral to a therapist or a stress counselor.

Consider counselors with a background in stress management

This type of counseling is offered by various professionals on mental health. The very act alone of relating your suffering to an impartial listener could already alleviate much of the stress that you are carrying. Qualified counselors and therapists are excellent sources of strategies and action plans that will help you cope with stressful situations and help you identify the areas in your life that are causing the problems. In many instances, group therapy is applied. Even so, stress counseling unlike most counseling does not have to be long term.

Spend more time with family and friends

Too often, stress can be pent up so that it breeds more stress. Sometimes, all that is needed is a good release. People with good social interaction have been shown to suffer less chronic illnesses than those who do not. Spending more time with family and friends has proven time and again to be a good therapeutic approach for people encountering various sorts of problems. The support that one gets and the love and appreciation are often enough to give a person a good perspective to the problem that is presently being encountered. In fact, studies have shown that even the act of caring for a pet is good therapy for stressed people.

Many people now are more receptive to the concepts of alternative medicine. It is interesting to note that alternative as it is, reflexology, herbology and such has been around longer than mainstream medicine has. Reflexology has been in practice a thousand years before, though it cannot be said from which continent it did originate because the Egyptians, Chinese and Japanese have been using it practically at the same time the world over.

Despite the widespread use of reflexology in different continents, the methods used have stark differences. For instance, the Chinese apply pressure through the use of needles, now popularly known as acupuncture while the Egyptians use the hands to apply pressure on the feet. But the same pressure point principle is observed in the entire reflexology community.

They all follow a certain scaled down body map on the base of the foot. The toes represent the head from the neck upwards. The heart and the chest area are represented by the ball of the foot. The internal organs are represented by the arch of the foot and the sole represents the lower back or spine and the intestines.

It is believed that the area corresponding to the body part is directly connected by the veins that run through the body. Therefore, the application of pressure will enable better blood circulation and relaxation. The heaviness of the pressure must be in accordance to the standard practice set by professional reflexologists because too much pressure can result to injury or sprain and not a lot of people can endure such pain. However, the amount of pressure can also be requested by the patient, as others do not feel the sensation from the average pressure.

Reflexology promotes relaxation because it allows the blood to circulate and relieve swelling. Reflexologists believe that illness or discomfort is primarily caused by blockages in the veins that prevent the blood and oxygen from passing through. Consistently applying pressure will slowly remove the blockages and allow the nerves to breathe. When the internal organs are at their best performance, the entire body is also on its optimum level.

However effective reflexology is in relieving pain, stress and other bad health symptoms, it is still not considered as a replacement for scientific or mainstream medicine. Nonetheless, it is often recognized as a complement to medications and to help promote the well-being of an ill person. Even devoted reflexologists refuse to advise an entire therapy around reflexology because mainstream medicine is still respected as the default medication for all.

In essence, reflexology is simply a therapy to release stress. The pressure points release hormones that induce the body into a relaxed state. Those who do not have reflexology sessions on a regular basis, or have had it for the first time feels dizzy and weak, but it is not an indication of anything negative happening in the body. It is simply a result of the resetting of the body’s equilibrium or homeostasis where the patient’s body is adapting to.
