Whenever you are feeling pain and discomfort, you’d usually reach for your painkillers for relief. While they do relieve the pain, they also bring along side effects that comes with taking foreign chemicals into your body. As much as modern medicine has developed drugs that can relieve pain right off the bat, do you really think that the quick fixes you’ve been taking are actually good for your body? Why not try something safer and more effective like acupuncture.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture has surged in popularity for the last few decades as brought on by the recent health trend. Mostly known as a traditonal Chinese medical technique, acupuncture is seen as a homeopathic method of treatment. While alternative medicine does raise a lot of eyebrows for the scientifically-inclined, it does merit attention before being dismissed as a quack cure.

Basic Procedure

Basically, needles are inserted into the skin, each corresponding to one of the numerous pressure points located throughout the body. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, by inserting a needle into the pressure point, an acupuncturist can manipulate the flow of chi or life force, thus relieving pain and gradually treating the patient. While most would say that the whole chi thing is a bunch of nonsense, science has suggested that with the needles inserted, the body’s natural painkillers called endorphins are released, thus helping with pain relief.

Instruments

Modern acupuncturists nowadays use disposable fine stainless steel needles that are 0.007 to 0.020 inches in diameter which are sterilized with either ethylene oxide or by autoclave. Since they are way finer than hypodermic syringe needles, being poked by these needles are relatively painless. The upper third of the needle is covered with either a thicker bronze wire or plastic to make the needle sturdier and easier to handle. The length of the needle and how far they are inserted is all up to the acupuncturist and his practised style of acupuncture.

Example Of Treatment

If a patient has a headache, he/she is diagnosed and is treated by stimulating the sensitive points located at the webs between the thumbs and palms. In acupuncture theory, these points are connected to the face and head and can be used for treatment of headaches and other ailments involved. Needles are then carefully inserted into the skin until the patient feels a twinge, which is usually accompanied by a slight involuntary twitching of the area. During this treatment, a number of things may occur.

- Sensitivity to pain in where needles are inserted.

- A hint of nausea during treatment in case of bad headaches.

- Near-immediate headache relief.

Evolution

As an ancient method, acupuncture has crossed over into the modern age with implementations of technology and recent scientific findings. Electrical stimulation is now a common technique that is combined with acupuncture to produce more effective results. Also, acupuncturists combined this eastern technique with western methods to further enhance the treatment.

Practitioners have eventually realized that leaning towards one school of thought can’t propagate progress unless they are willing to move towards the future by looking towards other horizons as well.

Reactions And Research

Not everyone is impressed with acupuncture itself. Most western medical professionals have expressed either doubt or indifference to the oriental method while others have downright driven it down into the earth with criticisms and brutal skepticism. However, recent research shows the efficacy (or lack thereof) of acupuncture, and while more research has to be done, it has been proven to actually positively affect some, but not all, forms of ailments that it claims to cure.

So as the doors open to a new age of acupuncture, give it a try when you feel the need for pain relief and you will not be disappointed. As the Chinese have used it for many centuries, so should we.

For thousands of years, magnet therapy (also known as magnetic therapy) had been known to be a safe, simple, effective and economical form of alternative therapy. From a scientific point of view, magnets had been proven to help the body to regain its self-healing electromagnetic balance naturally.

There had been evidence that suggests that magnet therapy can help relieve pain, reduce inflammation, restore natural energy, increase blood circulation, and prevent infection and promote natural metabolic processes to help support the healing process.

From the proponents of magnet therapy, the claim is that it is a non-invasive treatment method with a high success rate.

Short history

There may have been a revival of sorts regarding the role of magnets in a person’s health and well-being, but this association goes a long way into the past.

For over 2,000 years, magnet therapy in China had occupied a central role in Chinese medicine. It had also been mentioned in the earliest writings in Egypt, India and Greece.

How it works

For the layman, magnet therapy works on the natural energy of magnetism and its relations to a person’s overall health. A magnetic field provides a natural method in helping the body’s normal healing processes.

Studies had shown that magnets had been an effective therapy for pain relief through the method of blocking pain sensations. Applying magnetic fields to an injured area improves blood flow and oxygen which in turn enhances the body’s natural healing process.

With the improved blood flow and the fluid exchange to the injured tissue helps reduce pain and inflammation.

Magnetic therapy today

In Japan and other Asian countries, therapeutic magnets are licensed as medical devices. There is growing popularity in the use of magnet therapy in such countries as Australia, Russia, Germany and many other European countries.

Lately, western medicine had used magnetic energy for diagnosis with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and as an alternative method of accelerating the healing of bone fractures.

Alternative therapy

Magnetic therapy is increasingly popular among progressive health care practitioners, veterinarians, professional athletes and the general population as well.

With the spiraling cost of traditional health care and the continual aging of the general population, magnetic therapy had been included by many as among the options in relation to health. For reasons of effectiveness and economy as well as simplicity, magnet therapy might be well on its way of becoming an important part of alternative therapy in the future.

Clinical trials

There were some clinical trials in the U.S. reporting on some successes on their results. In 1997, the Baylor College of Medicine published a study where 76% of treated patients using permanent magnets had reported a decrease in arthritic joint and muscle pains compared to the 19% placebo patients.

The New York Medical College also released a study showing a significant reduction rate of foot pain in millions of diabetic patients. Employing magnetic insoles in their shoes, nine out of ten diabetics reported a decrease in painful burning sensations, numbness, and tingling.

Understanding

For a long time, the medical community and the practitioners (and users) of magnet therapy had been at odds on the many aspects of this particular alternative therapy. Some consensus had been arrived at in the past, but only on minor points.

The major point is the medical community’s flat-out non-recognition of the medical efficacy of magnet therapy. The story continues.

These days, magnet therapy or using magnets to heal pain is becoming popular with the public at large. Unfortunately, this popularity goes on unabated despite the lack of scientific evidence that can prove magnets have any real therapeutic benefits.

In the medical profession, doctors have been skeptical about the magnets having any therapeutic value.

Theoretical claims

The claim that magnets can heal have not been scientifically proven since. However, there are theories that magnets (they call them “biomagnets”) do not necessarily heal but it can stimulate the body to heal naturally.

There are other claims of what biomagnets can do from proponents of magnet therapy. These include restoration of cellular magnetic balance, and the so-called acceleration of the migration of calcium ions of ions to help heal bones and nerve tissues.

Magnet therapy claims that the body’s circulation is enhanced due to the presence of iron in the blood and thereby increasing blood flow. The last two claims declare that magnets have a positive effect on the pH balance of the cells as well as influencing hormone production.

Magnet polarity

One of the most obvious characteristics of a magnet is its polarity, the south (positive) and the north (negative) poles. The Chinese also associate the poles with their traditional yin and yang, where the north pole is the yin and the south pole is the yang.

Accordingly, the north pole (negative yin) is traditionally attributed as cooling and sedating and is associated to heal low back pain, arthritis, inflammation, headaches, and sharp pains.

The south pole with its stimulating and heating characteristics is the positive yang. It is associated with healing such afflictions as tingling, numbness, weak muscles, paralysis and scars.

Conditions

Some bodies seemed to lack positive and negative energies to heal. In such cases, the therapist applies both the north and south poles together (bipolar). This is mostly used to heal fractures and chronic pain.

Usually, the type of ailment determines the type and strength of the biomagnets used in the treatment. Also considered are the following conditions: the length of time the patient had the illness, the severity, the area of the body and the patient’s sensitivity.

Sensitivity to magnet therapy sometimes causes light-headedness, sleepiness, headaches and itching. Sometimes, the conditions get worse as toxins are released.

Prohibitions

Biomagnets are prohibited for use on pregnant women, patients with epileptic histories, taking some blood-thinning medications or if there is some internal bleeding.

They are not to be used on patients with a pacemaker or some other metal implants. Care should also be taken in the use of magnets on infants and children as well as the use on the eyes, brain or over the heart for all ages.

Power

Biomagnets are measured in terms of gauss, the line of force pr unit area of the pole. (The earth’s surface is about 0.5 gauss.) Magnet therapy experts begin their therapy at low gauss and increase the strength gradually.

Last words

There had been claims from patients on some significant improvements in their conditions (pains and other ailments) with the application of magnet therapy. However, there is still a lack of scientific data to validate the effectiveness of magnets. Doctors are still reluctant to prescribe it to treat even simple ailments.

There are a number of therapies available for all, and one of which is reflexology. This is often referred to as an alternative medicine, selected by many who want an option other than traditional medicine. Just what makes this form of therapy clicks? In the simplest sense, this is the application of pressure, stretching and the movement of the person’s feet and hands which in turn will trigger and connect to the many glands and parts of the body.

In the perspective of the practitioners of reflexology, they see the hands and the feet as representations for the many body parts and glands. Simply put, for them the feet and the hands are the mirror images for the body glands and organs. And what connects the organs to the hands and the feet are the zones and the reflexes.

Here’s how reflexology works. The moment the reflexes are stimulated, the electrical energy of the body will work in complement with the nervous system and this will in effect clear any hurdles on the zones. So you can expect that for every reflexology session, possible blockages in the zones are broken down, so the person gets to restore the natural flow of the energy in the body.

The moment some of these reflexes are addressed and manipulated, then stress is removed and in the process the parasympathetic response in the person’s body is activated that in turn releases in the imbalances in the person’s body. And the moment the stress is removed and that the circulation of the energy has been restored to its normal level, then the person who is subjected to reflexology returns to that stage called homeostasis. In the practice of reflexology and medicine, homeostasis is that automatic process in which the body of the person reverts back to that normal stage.

So where exactly is the pressure applied in the body of the person?

In reflexology, the focus is on the feet and the hands. Pressure is applied to these two body parts in order to bring relaxation and health to the person. But there is one segment in this practice that also calls for reflexology on the ear. This kind of practice is believed by practitioners as not part of traditional reflexology. For them, this is just modified from auricular therapy which is more related to acupuncture.

So what can be expected from reflexology?

As mentioned, this is all about the reduction of stress. This is often the go-to procedure that is looking for an immediate relief from stress and aches of the body. On the assertion that reflexology can also help arrest and counter some health conditions and illnesses, it is believed that the effects are not clear. There are still some studies and verifications that need to be done in order to establish the efficacy of reflexology in addressing diseases and other health concerns.

What is clear is that this form of procedure should not be used as an answer; rather this should be used just as a complement to traditional medical care.

They have always been the focus of curiosity, interest and quest of the human mind. Scientists say that everyone dreams, though not everyone remembers their dreams. Dreams provide an important channel for looking into the esoteric world of the unconscious mind.

From a western point of view, two people have contributed a lot to understanding the human brain. One is Sigmund Freud and the other is Carl Jung.

According to Freud, dreams are a way of fulfilling the suppressed and unattained desires of a person during their waking state. In his view, these unfulfilled wishes of a person during the waking state of consciousness are predominant in stimulating disturbances in the mind which are expressed through dreams.

Carl Jung went further by stating that dreams reveal more than fulfilling the personal wishes of the conscious (or waking) state. He said that dreams are “communication channels” of the individual consciousness with the cosmic (or collective unconscious) consciousness. He also said the collective unconscious is the same for everyone, whether he is an American, an Indian or an African.

Now dreams can be of different types like prophetic dreams, intuition dreams or lucid dreams. The dream may be a forerunner of the important things and events that are about to happen in your life. Dreams may telling you about what is going to happen to you or your relatives or friends. They may also be a warning to you ahead of time, about an accident that is about to happen. The intuition dreams are one in which we get some nudges to take some action for the betterment or to cancel some actions.

Different symbols appear in the dreams. The symbols that appear differ from person-to-person depending on their unique experiences in life. However, there are some symbols which belong to the collective unconscious and are common to most people. Symbols like animals coming in dreams are part of the collective unconscious, as different animals have specific meanings in dreams.

Also, it is said the timing of the dreams and the emotions one has during or after the dream, play an important part in interpreting the dream. The early sleep and dream cycles are the deepest and have short dream periods. Later dream cycles are lighter and have longer dream periods.

According to the Yogis, dreams are the domain of both the gods and the demons. They say that if God (or universe or spirit) wants to speak to you, they usually do so, through the dream plane. When one prays to God, and God wants to responds to you it is usually through the dream plane. Also dreams can be used to get solutions to complex problems in different areas of life.

We have heard so many clichés about knowing ourselves first before we can make our own way in this world. We might even have grown jaded hearing these words of wisdom passed down through the ages. Still, all these clichés hold more than a grain of truth for, indeed, personal growth comes from within us.

It will not come when we wait for others to take the lead. It will not come when we wait for the right time to come. It will not come when we do not want it to happen. Indeed, when you want personal growth, you must look into yourself and assess where you were in the past, where you are now in the present and where you intend to be in the future.

Be Honest

Often, you will be tempted to gloss over your weaknesses and crow over your strengths in an attempt to place yourself in a better light. Conversely, you will give in to the urge to overplay your liabilities and underplay your assets because you feel inferior than most people do. In either way, you are not being honest to yourself and, hence, you are fooling no one but yourself. And how foolhardy is that in self-assessment?

When you perform a self-assessment for your personal growth, you must be very honest, even brutal, about your strengths and weaknesses. You have to be able to face the man in the mirror and say: “Yes, that is me, no doubt about it”. Then, find a comfortable place to write in with pen and paper in hand. Relax by taking deep abdominal breaths, clearing your mind of its troubles, and contemplating the task at hand. When you feel that you are ready, you can now start the self-assessment.

First, you must list down the 25 meaningful one-word adjectives that pertain to your present personality. You need not be very eloquent at this point just as long as the selected adjective fits just right. Also, you can classify them into “good” and “bad” columns just as long as you are being very honest about your personal characteristics.

Second, you will also list down your likes and dislikes as well as the triggers that stimulate these personal qualities to come to the fore. Often, there will be gray areas in your list but strive to categorize them into likes and dislikes, perhaps with the triggers and explanations that make them so.

Third, you must identify the things that make you happy and sad. This list will identify your passions and sorrows in life that, in turn, will provide the basis for building on your joys and learning from your sorrows in life.

These exercises in making simple but in-depth lists of your likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, joys and sorrows will provide a more objective, more concrete and more actionable self-assessment. You will discover many things about yourself that you did not even existed when you do. From there, you can develop an effective skills set that will be used to advance your personal and professional life. And now that you have your lists and explanations, it is time to move into contemplation and action.

Be Contemplative

Often, we live such harried lives that we fail to look into ourselves and contemplate who we are as an individual. Well, with your abovementioned lists, you are in a better position to do so! Just make sure that you deliberately set aside ample time to contemplate who you are as a person.

When contemplating your inner self, you must neither be too hard nor too easy on yourself. The goal of a self-assessment for personal growth is to look into your reflection and see yourself exactly for who and what you are to yourself, to family and friends, to professional colleagues and even to strangers. The rationale behind personal contemplation is to assess what part of who and what you are needs specific action for a better you. For example, you can decide to transform your weakness into strengths or to conquer your intense dislike for heights or to indulge more in things that make you happy.

Be Proactive

However, deciding to take action is far different from actually taking action! You must act on your decision during the contemplative phase otherwise everything will be an exercise in futility. Indeed, you are the change you seek so make it happen right here, right now!

In conclusion, performing a self-assessment for personal growth can be a life-changing and life-affirming exercise. It is indeed your willful choice.

Achieving a cure for panic attacks is challenging but certainly not impossible. Millions of people suffer from some anxiety or panic disorder and many are able to completely overcome it and move on to live a confident, normal life.

But it does take dedication and some positive thinking to get there. If you truly want to eliminate the panic attacks and you take the action to overcome them, then you’ll certainly have no problem achieving your dream of living a life free of these symptoms.

Although there are no known medical cures for panic attacks, people often choose to follow natural treatments overtaking prescription medications, which can have drastic side effects.

It is vital that a heart attack or other serious physical problem is not mistaken for a panic attack. If a person has never had a panic attack before then they should consider seeing a doctor to rule out any another medical condition. However if you are familiar with the symptoms of a panic attack and have already consulted with a physician, then you will likely know when you are having one.

Panic attack symptoms include:

- Heart palpitations
- Sweating
- Shortness of breath
- Choking sensation
- Nausea
- Shaking or trembling
- A feeling of loss of control
- Fear of dying
- Chest pain or tightening
- Chills
- Hot flashes

The best panic cure seems to be one that changes the psychological thought patterns of a sufferer. This might include:

- Relaxation techniques
- Slow breathing training
- Cognitive therapy
- Exposure therapy
- Relapse prevention

Many people who have anxiety will have regular panic attacks, while others will only experience them very infrequently. Sufferers also find that they have good and bad days. On a good day you might be able to face situations that would otherwise cause an attack. But on bad days, facing these particular situations may be a terrifying thought.

Many people who suffer from anxiety thus try to avoid trigger situations, events and environments. However this is not the best way to establish a panic cure. Confronting the trigger can be the best way to get over it and this is the goal of many types of panic attack treatments.

The first thing to do is simply relax your entire body and let the tension ease as much as possible. Then try some deep breathing exercises and remind yourself that everything is ok.

For exact techniques on how to decrease panic attacks, there are several resources available. The popular guide, Panic Away, is one example of a resource that is readily accessible and outlines the steps to take to reduce the impact of panic attacks in your life. You can be successful.

Powerful hypnotic suggestions are the key to having a successful session. One alternative for this success is ideomotor questioning, which is valuable with suggestion validation. Keep in mind that subconscious validation does not automatically guarantee you will experience success but it does provide you with confirmation that you are using the suggestion the right way. To validate a suggestion, you can ask questions such as those listed below:

•	Is the hypnotic suggestion being made an acceptable one?
•	Will the suggestion give work and be effective?
•	How quickly will the suggestion work?
•	Is there something else that I should do to achieve the results wanted?

Another important part of using powerful hypnotic suggestion is by keeping good records. Keeping good records is important for many reasons specific to ideomotor questioning. For starters, questions need to be very specific and suitable, writing them down before they are asked. Therefore, we recommend you writer down questions before asking them. Just remember to write one down at a time since following questions will typically depend on the previous questions.

Secondly, you also want to avoid repeating, asking the same questions over and over. Third, with ideomotor questioning for your hypnosis session, you will be going through many questions and answers that will prove to be valuable to you down the road. Therefore, your questions should be designed as a future reference. If you do not write them down with good record keeping, you will not be able to remember them.

Finally, powerful hypnotic suggestions and keeping a written record go hand-in-hand, having a positive and lasting effect on the subconscious mind. One alternative to find out the reasons your subconscious mind responds better with written records is to conduct a questioning session for this specific reason. For this, you will be asking a tremendous number of questions, allowing the subconscious mind time to reveal its own dynamics.

Now, just as ideomotor questioning and keeping good records of questions for your hypnosis session can be helpful; there are some things with suggestions that can make things worse. In fact, some suggestions can do harm. Any flawed suggestion or suggestions that work against the subconscious mind and not with it will only make things far worse. With this, you typically see errors the “I can’t” problem.

With hypnosis, you want to stay away from impossibilities, the “I can’t syndrome”. Remember that with hypnosis suggestions, nothing horrible is going to happen to you such as growing a third eye. Therefore, trying to achieve something that is possible to include losing weight, stopping smoking, and so on, will not do any physical harm to you. However, when you try to achieve the impossible, your subconscious mind’s acceptance of the hypnosis will be blocked. Therefore, realize that hypnosis suggestions should be geared toward you achieving things that are possible.

Another consideration in trying to use powerful hypnotic suggestions is that placebo effects can make things worse when under negative conditions. However, when used in the right way, placebo effects can be a positive thing. The challenge is that when using placebo, the person being hypnotized would need to be naïve, not being aware of what will take place with the hypnosis.

The bottom line is to create powerful hypnotic suggestions; you need to follow some simple guidelines as provided in this article. By taking the appropriate steps, you will have far more success in overcoming the thing you are trying to conquer. Rather than shy aware from the benefits of hypnosis, simply learn about suggestions and the suitable way to form questions. You will be amazed at how the ideomotor method of questioning will make such a huge difference in your success with hypnosis.

Feelings of low self-worth have plagued so many individuals over the years. While there are those who suffer momentary bouts of low self-esteem once in a while, how people see themselves and their worth is often an enduring idea. If you’re one of those who feel low self-esteem far too often, you need not despair. Recognizing that you have a problem, after all, is one step in the right direction. Once you’ve recognized how little you value yourself is problematic, there are some low self-esteem solutions that can help you beginning to develop greater love for yourself and appreciation for who you are.

First order of business, of course, is to recognize if you are simply having a chain of bad days or weeks, or are suffering from genuine feelings of low self-worth. Some symptoms include withdrawing one’s self from the rest of the world, seeking to please other people at one’s own expense, feeling unhappy about one’s body and appearance (which can lead to some eating disorders), and neglecting one’s self. You may also worry a lot about what others say but put little importance on what you have to say. You may be expecting too little from yourself despite imposing impossible standards of perfection at the same time.

If these are the cocktail of feelings that you often suffer from, then the first step is to seek professional help. This is because trained professional therapists can provide an excellent avenue through which you can re-evaluate whatever negative feelings and opinions you have about yourself. This is the first step towards self-acceptance and recognizing your worth as a person.

While you are working towards building your own self-esteem slowly with a therapist, you will also benefit from trying to actively make choices in your various activities to inculcate a habit of self-love. For instance, for every successful activity that you take part in, give yourself due credit. Make this recognition of your contribution to the cause more material by rewarding yourself. Have you scored well in an exam? Buy something you like, or eat somewhere nice to reward yourself for a job well done.

Next, eat healthy, workout, and sleep well. Keeping a healthy lifestyle is a good step to begin appreciating one’s body, as it is one of the steps through which you are able to gain greater appreciation of yourself. You need not be displeased about how you look, because of you are much aware that you are taking care of yourself well. You will also find that eating healthy, sleeping well, and working out will contribute to your having enough energy to engage better in your activities and to simply enjoy whatever happens during the day.

Whenever people ask a favour from you, first consider if this favour will involve putting other people before your needs. You need to actively ensure that your needs are first met before you go around helping other people out. This will help you recognize that while other people are important, you deserve the same attention that you shower on other people.

One of the best low self-esteem solutions is to take in part in activities that you like. In the process, you may discover some talent that you were unable to devote yourself to previously. Dancing, art, music, or sports can help you find a niche of specialization, as well as an avenue for self-expression.

Have you lost your way in life? If this happens, what you need is someone to help you pick yourself up. That person could be your best friend or a total stranger. Such an individual is called a life coach and this is how you go about finding or hiring one.

The first step in finding or hiring a life coach is to tell certain people about how you feel and that you think you need a life coach. You should only spread this information to a select few so this can be kept a secret between you and them.

The reason you are telling them is that they may have had this experience before and may be able to refer a life coach to you. After all, it is better to work with someone you know rather than go looking for someone who claims to be a life coach in the newspaper or the Internet.

If none of your family or friends has ever consulted with a life coach, perhaps it is time to put yourself out there and find one. To do that, you should attend seminars by people who decide to have one. When you are there, listen to what they say and try to get a feel of their personality. Should this person be an ideal candidate, get a chance to talk with them and then take it from there.

There are several people who claim to be life coaches but in reality are fakes. So you know this person is a professional, make sure that they are certified. Life coaches’ should be accredited by International Coach Federation (ICF).

This is a body that sets the international standards for professional coaching ethics, training and practices. Keep in mind that a certified life coach has undergone rigorous training so they are able to help a person.

Apart from looking for someone who is certified, you should also ask the potential life coach for references so you can ask how they performed in the past. The references that are given must be people that this person helped not a friend or a family member.

The last thing to look for when looking or hiring a life coach is to assess whether you guys will work together or not. You like someone because you felt a spark and something similar to that should also be found. That way, you will comfortable around this person and you can trust and believe whatever they say.

But apart from certification, references and chemistry, there are other thing to look for in a life coach. For one, he or she must have had the same experience or something similar to what you are going through otherwise they don’t know what they are talking about.

Since you want to know more about them, it is only right that they offer a one-time free consultation. You don’t know the life coach and vice versa so use this time to get to know them.

One of the questions you should ask is what is their coaching style? There are many ways to help someone and if you are not comfortable with how they do it, then you should probably find someone else.

One deciding factor to consider when finding or hiring a life coach is how much they charge. Most will charge $240 to $450 per month. This person will not be around 24/7 and most of the time, they will be around like 2 hours monthly which can be divided into 30-minute sessions that equals 4 30-minute sessions, 3 45 minutes sessions or 2 1-hour sessions.

Money shouldn’t be the real issue when you are looking for a life coach. The same goes for age because this is irrelevant as long as they are properly trained and certified.

If after everything you feel that this person could be your life coach, and then stick with them until that you feel that their services are no longer needed. You might say that these people are like guardian angels that go around and help people like yourself then leave knowing you will be all right.
